DC protesters-anyone know what security will be like?
Has there been any media reporting of security measures? Are they going to line us up for metal detectors like last January?

1. A reminder to those taking the Metro that weekend
Do not let the D.C. Metro Food Police find you with so much as a potato chip near your mouth. You WILL be arrested and most likely spend your weekend in jail rather than at the march. I kid you not.

11. Thanks for the warning....
I was not aware of that. We are flying in to DC and the metro will be are only means of transportation.

Thanks Again.

6. It couldn't be worse than being in Times Square on
New Year's Eve :)

BTW, I haven't seen any media reporting at all about the event. My local paper had an item on Cindy Sheehan being in Norfolk today to speak at a downtown rally, but only mention her "tour" ends in DC this weekend.

Wonder if there's MSM blackout of the protest for fear it will grow bigger and stronger? Than the Freedom March.....

7. There's been a remarkable lack of coverage.
Saw a short WAPO story yesterday on that. Otherwise, very little in the MSM about the march or the official preparations.

Either everything's very hush-hush, or else the streets are ours.

Seriously, the weekend events will probably not meet with a lot of police interference. The crowd's going to be very big, and such events are usually self-policing.

However, those who hang around for the direct action on Monday -- and I've seen some reference to it -- are likely to have a lot of big, body-armoured guys with nasty pain-producing tools chasing them down.

9. I am worried they will shut people out of the city again. Or find a way
to cancel the whole thing.

12. I saw an article in the Washingtom Post that said:
The DC police will have an extra 200 officers on the job for the weekend, and that the police were not expecting any problems.
