who are the Truth Tellers? . . .
time is running out . . .

we need to identify the Truth Tellers so we can ask them to help us figure out how to best respond to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr's plea:

Those of Us Who Know That America’s Worth Fighting for Have to Take It Back Now from Those Who Don’t
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0916-27.htm

as Johnny used to say, Who Do You Trust? . . . just off the top of my head, my own list would include:

- RFK, Jr.
- John Conyers
- Bill Moyers
- Jimmy Carter
- Gary Hart
- Howard Zinn
- Robert Redford

I know there are obvious names that I'm overlooking . . . feel free to add to the list . . .

I would suggest that, with very few exceptions, elected officials can NOT be trusted, since they are all beholden to one or more corporation and/or industry . . . they are, in short, part of the problem, NOT part of the solution . . . they have too much to lose . . .

Truth Tellers either have nothing to lose, or are willing to risk all they DO have for a higher purpose . . .

today, right now, that higher purpose is literally saving our nation and our planet . . .

so who are the Truth Tellers? . . . and how can we get them to help us? . . .

1. I do not trust Gary Hart
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 01:22 AM by firefox
I would not trust anyone that is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. At one time Gary Hart was the chair of CFR- http://www.cfr.org/publication.html?id=5099

I have fond memories of the plain talk from Gary Hart before his fall, but I would not trust him.

2. I've met him twice, he was very friendly, he seemed kinda uninformed
though.

12. okay . . . if there are doubts, delete Gary Hart . . .
my purpose in starting this thread is not to champion any particular individuals, but to start an honest dialogue about who we can turn to for the truth . . . if I've misjudged Hart, my bad . . . just delete him and move on . . .

because at some point -- and soon -- we're going to need the Truth Tellers to come forward and, in unison, tell the American people what is really happening in this country . . . and help us figure out what to do about it . . .

Well, you DID say elected officals can't be trusted.

And I'll trust those two to tell me the truth.

8. Based on his series of articles
on his trips to Iraq and Iran, I would add Sean Penn (since you listed an actor - Robert Redford). I expect we'll be seeing him write something on his experiences in NOLA, too, even though he didn't go there as a journalist.

Howard Dean, definitely.

I'm also going to say Michael Moore.

15. Maxine Waters speaks for me.
She has a great combination of intelligence and anger.

Thanks for starting this list, BTW. I think it's an important topic to think about.
