Wow. Right on cue. New "terror" threat -- ABC nightly news.
Some guy, the "American AlQaeda", allegedly passed a videotape to ABC news in Pakistan yesterday. They just played parts of it at the top of the newscast.

I'm sorry, I was just cracking up through the whole thing. The language was SOOOO hokey, it's this guy with glasses (Rummy, is that YOU?) wearing a black turban with black cloth covering his lower face, speaking English and gesturing dramatically.

Anyway, Los Angeles and Melbourne are supposedly next. "We are lovers of peace, but if you persist with what you are doing, we will love waging war..." (Something like that -- just paraphrasing)

I hope some other folks caught this. To me it just seemed absurd and histrionic. I swear it's a putup job -- the bushies are desperate enough. Of course, I have always laid 9/11 at their feet, so I'm predisposed to call psyops on the fuckers.

the American people from enemies and disasters now haven't they?

2. I won't assume anything
I won't assume it's a hoax, nor will I assume it's real. There are real terrorists out there who want to kill Americans, but at the same time the Bush Team has been milking the terrorist threat for 4 years now, and there is no reason to believe that has changed.

30. Maintaining open mind; Guy is a white kid from Orange County
That's a KNOWN FACT.

Tinfoil speculation would be saying something like, well, if you do a little research on the internet, you can find out that the guy's erstwhile psychedelic musician father was experiencing financial problems in the mid 1990s.

I wonder if Mr. Phil Pearlman still has money issues?

THAT would be the kind of tinfoil research and speculation I would expect, from some folks here.

Leaving that aside for a moment, How's this for "maintaining an open mind"- If "Al Qaeda" really wanted to issue a credible threat, don't you think they would use an ACTUAL ARAB.... and not a white kid from the OC?

34. So he's a white guy from OC. That got your attention.
The fact that he's a white guy from the Republic of Orange County doesn't make it less effective or unreal. It certainly got your attention. The whole point of terrorism is terror. Doesn't matter if the threat is particularly credible or not. Once you laid the violent groundwork, then even a simple video can terrify some people and get a whole lot more to devote time and attention.

37. I'm not "afraid", I think it's bullshit.
And I think the fact that these "threats" seem to pop up at times when the Bush administration is facing problems in the press or the polls is particularly curious.

40. And how about this:
Remember "duct tape"? Remember the "particularly credible" threats before? Remember the "90% certainty of an attack before the election" last year?

Do any of those ring a bell?

Sure, the point of terrorism is terror. But in case you haven't noticed, the primary result of this continual bullshit priming of the "terror pump" in the United States is NOT 'terror', it's DISTRACTION, and support for the Bush administration and its wrong headed policies in places like Iraq.

45. Oh, so THAT's where he was! Not on strike, withholding his spin
machine services from Bush--who repeatedly stumbled without it, with one doofus mistep after another ("let them eat cake")--to negotiate a presidential pardon from Treasongate. And as soon as he got it--and Cheney got whatever he was after ("gone fishing" in Wyoming)(--cleanse the riffraff out NO, total control over LA and aid funds?)--the spin machine geared back up, and Bush was put back on his meds and reprogrammed. Newsturd today about Rove having been in the hospital with bladder stones throughout. Ha, ha.

Now we know. He was making this tape.

43. Of course it rings a bell
Yes, of course the raising of the "threat level" before the election might have been a ploy.

Yes, of course you aren't more afraid.

But that doesn't make this guy necessarily not an Al Quaida guy, white skin and all. Just because you want an "ARAB" (your capital letters) is your focus on race. Terrorists come in all races and religions. Afghanis aren't ARABs for example.

And no, he didn't just pop up now for the convenience of the White House. I think it is rather inconvenient for the WH right after the debacle of New Orleans. A threat on the anniversary is to be expected. Rove is not the only one who milks the terror cow.

49. I think, given the racial undertones of the so-called "war on terror"
it's interesting that most of the so-called "Al Qaeda" people that the gov't have trotted out have been, while maybe not white, certainly Americans- the "cell" in Oregon made up of disaffected african americans. John Walker Lindh. Jose Padilla.

Meanwhile, when they have a REAL terrorist- (and I say this not because of his color, or his religion, or his name, but because of his resume) like Nabil Al-Marabh, we let him go.

It doesn't make me a racist to point out that the majority of "terrorist" acts performed on US soil in the past 10 years have been committed by white people. Eric Rudolph. Timothy McVeigh. Hell, even that Anthrax investigation seemed to suddenly drop in priority once it started pointing back towards US army stocks of anthrax and right-wingers, didn't it?

So of course terrorists come in all races and religions. But if the so-called "war on terror" is really a war on misguided kids from Orange County, then the administration should present it as such, and stop using it -and the threat of the everpresent, spooky, swarthy, "them"- as a pretext to invade other countries.

I can accept the possibility that this guy may "really" be Al Qaeda, (whatever that means) but you should likewise consider the possibility that he's just some yahoo with a scarf and a video camera.

appearance, mannerisms, or something that just doesn't feel right. It has been on several other news stations, but even they don't appear to be taking this very serious.

Poor Shrub. Since they did away with those old color coded threat warnings, nobody is paying any attention to his BS anymore!

I also think Katrina shot Shrub right between the eyes! Many Americans believed him when he kept saying I'm keeping you safe! That was supposed to be the main reason he was re-elected! The storm proved him wrong! Even with 5 days advance notice, his group of pretend saviors FAILED!

Believe you me, you would not have heard a *whisper* about any of this ... it is their worst fear - another attack and we have no way to deal with it which is obvious to the world after Katrina.

These people make me sick! :puke:

I do believe that the public is on to "them" and their sick games. The death of Rehnquist barely caused anyone to notice, next attempt was the Saddam trail (when?). It takes a lot to divert the attention to a disaster that could have been prevented. Thousands of American citizens have died for NO REASON thanks to the greed of these creeps and thugs running OUR government. :grr:

48. Yeah, what a frickin joke.
What's scarier, that terrorists might attack or that the federal government would have their thumbs up their asses and not know what to do about the aftermath.

Given what's happened with NOLA, I doubt any terrorist group would even bother with an attack. They're probably just sitting back and laughing their asses off at how incompetent and full of shit Bush & Co. are and how the American people (the ones that supported Bush) are finally realizing it. They're laughing because they know that the Bush administration has succeeded in destroying America for them. Bush & Co. has managed to kill moe Americans through their lies, budget cuts, and general incompetence than any terrorist attack could ever hope to do.

Hell, right now our own inept federal government scares me more than any terrorist threat ever could. Once nations of the world thought America was to big and powerful to ever risk invading us. Now they know that we wouldn't be able to respond and that in the chaos we'll tare ourselves apart just trying to find a way to survive.
