Natural gas bills to rise 40 percent in coming weeks
Still think this was a "local" issue, "W"?

HURRICANE KATRINA HAS SHUT DOWN NEARLY 20 PERCENT OF PRODUCTION

By Matthai Chakko Kuruvila

Mercury News

Already hit with surging gasoline prices, Bay Area PG&E customers will see their natural gas bills jump 40 percent in the coming weeks thanks in part to Hurricane Katrina.

That means the average residential customer will pay an extra $43 this January, typically the costliest month, compared with the previous year, PG&E said.

Katrina shut down nearly 20 percent of the nation's natural gas production, shrinking already tight supplies, spiking prices and leaving Californians vulnerable. Natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico will take months to fully restore, according to federal officials.

1. It cost 64% more to heat my house last year
and now I am getting reports that it's going to go up another 70-something percent this year. I don't know how I am going to make it.

5. Do you have a fireplace?
If you do, you might want to consider installing a wood-burning fireplace insert.

6. Just curious, what is a wood-burning fireplace insert.
I have been looking for alternatives. I have a fireplace and natural gas for heating.

7. We used a ceramic disc heater....
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 04:33 PM by ancient_nomad
last year as our main heating source through the day. They
use electricity, but only pennies per day, and are very
economical. At night, we set the heat (natural gas) to 60 degrees
and, for the most part we were comfortable.
This year I imagine it won't be pennies per day, but still, it
will be a savings.
Anyone else have any tips?
TIA

8. Check the Mississippi news sources for the last 6 to 8 months.
We have been fighting to keep natural gas rigs out of the gulf - the repuke gov - Elephant Babar was for the natural gas rigs as were his minions and the repuke state senators and reps. Dems have prevented it as have the environmental groups.

Now that Katrina has devastated our Coast, the rigs will be seen as a way to bring our economy back to life. So we will have land based casinos and natural gas rigs --- they always find a way to profit from the miseries of the masses.

Bastards!
