18. Yes indeed !
I bet the response was lousy in the initial organizing, not to mention blasts from the MSM about the tacky factor.

I'd love to see the White House memo that went out to all the govt contractors. <snort>

7. Took 15 minutes to clear the staging area in the Pentagon parking lot.
Looks about like our local Breast Cancer Walk with about 3500 to 5000 people. I bet 90% are federal workers and their families.

9. My first thought too......
looks like federal employees and military, active and retired, lots of church groups too? I grew up in that area, and the crowd is disproportionately caucasian for DC too.

I hope Cspan covers Sept 24 and the real patriots :)

Definitely a Bush Base rally. Though hopefully many are there to actually pay tribute to the 9-11 victims, not laugh and giggle there way in front of t.v. cameras.

Are the Bushville people there? I'm looking for signs and listening for noise :)

11. Look At All Them Black Folks
Ooops...sorry...i accidentally went to a shot of the Astrodome.

How come I suspect most these people can't wait to get home and watch the Redskins game.

But didn't we expect this. In the Donald Von Rumsfeldt DOD, when he says jump, you say how high.

All wearing the same T-shirt...gotta love the diversity on parade here.

21. Not to take anything away from the tragedy of 9/11..
But why do we celebrate this event every year with faux patriotism and pomp and circumstance?

Did we do this each year after Pearl Harbor? (Serious question since, obviously, I wasn't born at the time).

It's fine to do for, perhaps, the first aniversary, but this is just getting a little excessive, IMO. I hope I'm not over the line.

23. This is a day thousands of our countrymen were murdered.
This should be a solemn day for remembrance and reflection. This is an obscene spectacle. A desecration and a disgraceful embarassment.

We have become the Romans. Our empire will share the same fate.

since we were busy at war but every year since I can remember (early '50s) there has been a ceremony held in honor of Pearl Harbor victims in Honolulu

22. Probably why the crowd is small....
Arlington, Va (AP) - Anyone who joins Sunday's Nine-Eleven memorial Freedom Walk without registering could be arrested.

Pentagon officials tell The Washington Post that the route from the Pentagon to the Mall will be lined with four-foot-high snow fencing. US Park Police will keep out interlopers. Hundreds of officers will patrol the route on foot, horseback, motorcycles and in a helicopter.

Park Police Chief Dwight Pettiford says anyone who joins the march or the subsequent concert on the Mall without a permit and refuses to leave will be arrested. The media will also won't be allowed to join walkers on the route.

Police have approved a permit from a small group of protesters that plans to stand along Independence Avenue.

Also, remember this is sponsored by the Defense Department, so those all look like Pentagon employees and contractors :)
