I'm new here! I just wanted to introduce myself on this here DU board. I've been lurking and finally became a member. Katrinagate did it for me.

I will share my story with you at a later date but suffice it to say that I am a former freeper who has increasingly become disgusted with the Bush administration and their lies.

As of late I am on a mega-crusade to get the word out to demand the immediate impeachment of President Bush and his entire administration. I've been calling reps and Congressmen all week. You can call Congress toll free at 1-877-762-8762 and speak to any rep or Senator your heart desires. Go to www.senate.gov and www.house.gov to find lists of Congressmen and contact info.

They say nothing is worse than a scorned person. Well as a republican, I was scorned, lied to, manipulated, and used by Bush and his pernicious lies. Well I won't have anymore of that, and I've made it my personal crusdade to see he is removed from office.

Anyhow, thought I'd say Hi and I'm happy to be here!

The situation in this country is beyond who's party we belong to. We are all in the fight for survival. I am scared beyond words. I felt safe and secure just a few short years ago. I am an independent myself, and even though I've never voted for Bush (despite occasionally having voted for Republicans in lower offices), I, along with many other Americans, were bamboozled into supporting what turned out to be a war that was not only totally *elective* (against any sense of the America we all know, liberal or conservative), but also a clusterfuck of immense proportions. While the nation was down and out from 9/11, Bush used that mood to convince us that Saddam had WMDs and was going to turn them over to al-Qaeda for immediate use in our cities. He used that mood to present the LIE that the United States had the right by itself to enforce UN sanctions (no single nation has that right). He used that mood to sell the unAmerican idea that the U.S. has some kind of divine right to tear down dictatorships that pose NO immediate threat to the U.S. or its allies and nation-build them into liberal democracies, all by American Presidential fiat. Bush f**ked us over on Iraq. There's no way to sugarcoat it.

And now with Katrina, he clearly delayed the federal response to the very day his ass-holiness stepped down on the ground. His fake photo-ops are *widely* documented (the one with the group of firefighters should convert any Bush supporter on the mere sight of it). And *his* FEMA clearly blocked supplies from getting to the Superdome and Convention Center as well as other survivors in the NOLA area. It all had a rank smell of criminal indifference and/or racism (and I'm white saying this).

My personal campaign has been to generate a wide call of "RESIGN NOW", but "IMPEACH THE MOFO" works for me too. Whatever gets this pile of sh*t out of *our* White House is OK by me.

I think that one of the interesting differences you'll find between DU and FR is that DUers can appreciate honest differences of opinion, while it appears that FR is little more now than an echo chamber intended to reinforce the orthodox party line.

Many of us here would love to see the divisiveness of modern politics replaced by a legitimate, civil, and respectful political discourse. Whoever said "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" (Vince Lombardi) would have made a shrewd politician, but a shitty statesman.

As liberal as I am, I can still appreciate the value of Conservatism in tempering progressive ideas when they might otherwise overreach themselves. An adversarial system of politics ensures that only the best ideas survive to be implemented, and that backtracking and remedial action to emend mistakes are reduced as much as possible. That, unfortunately, is an ideal from which we fall far short in this age of zero-sum, say-anything, take-no-prisoners brinksmanship politics.

I'm happy to abide THOUGHTFUL conservatives, so long as they try to keep an open mind and allow themselves to be persuaded by a compelling argument now and again, as I try to do.

Not a former Freeper, though. More of a former centrist independent (Perot in '96, Nader in '00, Badnarik in '04), actually. But I just can't diddle around with marginal politicians anymore. Not after watching the Dubya Staged Hurricane Photo-Op Tour 2005, anyway.

Although I never voted for Bush, I've found myself swallowing a lot of RW spin over America's decade-long national nightmare. Not that I hadn't seen and heard all the evidence of Bush lies (mind you, w/o the Net and the fact that Alabama actually had a progtalk radio station for a few years, I wouldn't have seen any), but I dismissed them as either tinfoil hattery or the work of ditzy bleeding-hearts who didn't understand how things actually work. And my family . . . Damn. Is it even possible for someone to become more RW during this maladministration? Guess so, because they have. The common sentiment on Katrina is "They should've let those N-words drown". They've OD'd on Faux News racist spin.

Not I. I have forsaken my innate rural white male distrust of the Democratic Party. Any "leader" who cost his country millions of jobs, possibly set up a terrorist attack on his own country (I still think that's mostly tinfoil, but after Katrina, I don't think they would have had any moral qualms about it), started an unnecessary war before even completing the objective of the previous one, stole 2 elections (OK, so I'm not as convinced on the second one, but the first was obvious), and lets thousands of his own citizens die in a natural disaster needs to go and go now before he can abolish elections and make himself Dictator-For-Life (we know it's possible, and I really don't want to see Supreme Leader Jenna Bush on down the line.)

Resignation isn't good enough. Even if Bush and Dick resign and Rove does hard time, we'll still have President Dennis "Bulldoze New Orleans" Hastert with Rove's understudy blaring in his ear and the entire Bush cabinet advising him.

The only solution is impeachment...of them all, removal...of them all, imprisonment...of them all, and a new election because the last two shouldn't count. Anything less only wounds the beast.

A short version of my brother's story: In 2002 he as calling me long distance to yell at me about protesting against the imminent war on Iraq, and how it was all Saddam's fault, and that he was just afraid for his daughter and the WMD that Saddam could attack the US with or give to terrorists.

I was curious why Stinky said that Katrinagate did it for him, but then later said he had not voted for Bush in 2004, but rather went over to Kerry. That to me, was confusing, because I would have thought something had 'done it for him' before the election.
