If our society made an effort to make blacks equal American citizens, wouldn't it help whites at least as much as it would help blacks? Better communities would result. Bigger and more affluent local markets would develope. The terror of a cold race war would fade away.

3. I have never understood

what whites really had to gain in the long run with their attitudes. Prosperous communities are safer, more economically sustainable, and there is nothing more uplifting than real hope.

All we've managed to give blacks in this country is the illusion of hope--from the religion we handed them (and I definitely like what they've done with it, btw, even though I'm not Christian)--to the hope that somehow they can beat out the poor, ignorant white guy to wrest success from the dark heart of the beast we call the 'rat race.'

Real hope could change everything.

4. We can start with changing affirmative action policies

We can start by changing affirmative action policies from those on the basis of race and gender to those on the basis of (lower) socioeconomic class. I call this class-based affirmative action, or CBAA for short.

We can also make discrimination on the basis of poverty or near-poverty illegal, put steps to make it easy to prove and pass laws that will give indigent plaintiffs in civil cases, not just criminal defendants, to an attorney.

Many whites are convinced that this is a minority preference instead of a white preference society. The stingy American welfare state needs to give anxious white middle class voters a bigger hand. Underfunding the government incites racial division.
