Has Nagin stopped all animal rescue? Freep sent this to me...
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 07:04 PM by October
Edited to clarify.

A freep acquaintance of mine sent me the following. I'm trying to find out if there is any truth to it. I'm suspicious. Sorry I wasn't clear with my initial post.

---------------
From a freep I know:

Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans has stopped all animal rescue now that mandatory evacuation has begun. Please sign this petition, and forward it to anyone you can to sign, to make sure animals are included. Animals can survive on this water, but they are going to starve to death and the contaminated water will shortly start to kill them. Many are chained and cannot get food.

Please sign the petition, even here in South Africa we see the visuals on CNN and Sky News. It breaks my heart, they don't understand why they're left behind - neither do I.......please help save them. Humans shouldn't be the only priority - we're the ones responsible for them and now they're dying with each passing moment.

Thanks for any info., so I can respond appropriately.

2. Well, I'm just trying to find out if it's true.
A freep acquaintance of mine emailed that link, but it's the first I've heard of Nagin calling off animal rescue. I'm Googling, but nothing yet comes up.

4. This is a little off topic but it concerns Snowball
I was checking ou the American Humane Association's website to see if they had any info on discontinuing animal rescue and found this..

"And Snowball, the dog that was taken from the arms of a boy departing the Superdome, has been found at a shelter and efforts continue to find her family."

I'm sorry if this is old news but I was very happy to read it!!

5. Not as of yet

There is a report and audio about rescues. Some folks from PETA went down to work with HSUS and are phoning in their rescue stories, which are then put online.

6. Actually, your link led me to a similar plea...
http://www.helpinganimals.com/f-evacanimals.asp

It seems there are some animal rescue groups urging Americans to write to Nagin. While he hasn't "stopped all animal rescue," as the initial email states, his policy seems to be that of forcing citizens to evacuate -- even if it means leaving their beloved pets behind.
