U2, Coldplay, Trent Reznor, Pearl Jam added to MTV Relief Show

The list of musicians performing in tonight's show keeps growing... MTV announced today that due to the addition of more and more artists, they are extending the show to past midnight (Four+ Hours of music!).

This is going to be amazing. Tune in starting at 8:00 ET tonight!

If you're talking about last night, his mic didn't work at the beginning of the song, but Kanye didn't freestyle about New Orleans until the middle of the song.

makes sense, as the initial words don't seem to warrant censorship

I know there are swears and "coke" references in the song, but what about the other stuff; the improv?

6. Here's what they bleeped.

Kanye performed "Jesus Walks."

The words "nigga" and "niggaz" appear often in the song. Each time they did, the word was bleeped.

This entire line was bleeped, and it's probably what you were referring to:

Saying "we eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast"
Huh? Yall eat pieces of shit? What's the basis?

Actually, the censor took his finger off the bleep button just before Kanye said, "what's the basis?"

I've watched it over and over, and I'm a huge fan of Kanye and know "Jesus Walks" very well. He saved his political riffing for the middle of the song, and none of that was censored.

ETA: I'm confident that there were technical difficulties with Kanye's mic at the beginning of the song. In fact, while they were setting up for his set, the actor Ray Romano was on camera, and technicians ran in front of and behind him, he looked distracted, and you could hear the fumbling of mics as well as some pretty heavy feedback. They then cut to video footage of the victims. By the time they went to Kanye, you could still hear the feedback.

In fact, I use it all the time to figure out lyrics. :-)

Last night's show was ok, but it was way too short. Tonight's MTV show will hopefully make up for some of that. Four hours, commercial-free.

I think it's really going to be something, and don't be surprised if some news is made tonight from that show. We'll see, huh?

there was one other singer for whom I explicitly didn't care, but I dunno who she was.

the others, well, not much of a Garth fan, but others hear seemed to enjoy his version of "Who'll Stop the Rain?"

after seeing two Credence songs I was sort of hoping they'd finish with Fortunate Son, with Fogerty actually appearing.

Let's hope MTV learned their lesson when they were roundly criticized for their horrible, awful coverage of Live 8.

I don't trust MTV anymore.

I was an MTV kid a long time ago, and it seems that now it blows chunks (and I hate that phrase, but not as much as I hate MTV).

I'll tune in for U2 and some of the other acts, but the second they flip to CoolNamed22yearold's long drawn out commentary on how great the music is--WHILE SOMEONE'S STILL PLAYING-- I'm outta there.

They've got one helluva lineup, so as a huge rock and music fan, I simply have to tune in.

I'm sure if it sucks, we'll all know about an hour into coverage.

But I have a feeling they learned some lessons from Live 8. There are so many amazing artists that have signed up, and they seem to have confidence in MTV, so we'll see, we'll see...

At the very least, I'll bet some news is made there tonight.
