1. The man who took the photos is a Nicaraguan expatriate
Apparently there is something of a language barrier. Some of the commentary attached to the photos has upset some people. But the pics are really well done.

8. I didn't get to all the commentary...
or all the pictures yet, I just thought that pictures shot on the ground were important to have access to.

2. 24 hrs later.....
---The guards began removing obstacles for the rescue mission.

---Anyway, help was on its way. You could see people being mobilized as best they could.

the evidence is in this pictures....!!!!!!!!!!!

5. And you find a couple of pictures of NG trucks evidence of this?
Which pictures tell you that?

7. For all we know
That could be a part of the small contingent that was at the Super Dome. It's already pretty clear that but for a very small number, the main force of the National Guard didn't arrive until Friday.

3. I looked at all those photos last night.
They are excellent photos of before and after Katrina. However they are a very limited view of after the levee breaks. The photographer also takes issue with the media in New Orleans lying and making things out to be alot worse than they really were. I was a little startled at his perceptions.

23. I don't think he realized exactly what was going on, remember
when he got to the convention center he was shocked with the conditions and the masses there. Plus the media would have footage of the people on houses, in attics, what had happened in the dome, they new the reality of what had been happening in those days that he was walking around taking very surreal but limited in scope photos. (There's also a chance that one girl he said was exaggerating had been playing up the looting and shooting on rescue workers for more than what was real, I think those MSM exaggerations are the excuses used now as to why they didn't bring in water and food). Does anyone know what the beef is to his captions? I thought he did a very good job. As I looked at his photos I couldn't help think that but for 3 things Katrina would have been a tragedy and not a horrific disaster; 1) NG troops on the ground to keep order/save lives, 2) 5 ton sandbags immediately after finding out about levee breaches, 3) water and food to the Convention Center and Superdome immediately. It's just horrible to look at his pictures and see the possibilities for surviving (the city and its people) if these things had been taken care of.

4. Yes, already bookmarked it!
Didn't comment on the other thread, since it
seemed more concerned about argueing
over the photographer's alleged racism....

But everyone should see it.
He took some GREAT photos, and timelined them
from the first clouds until their eventual escape from the city.

13. There are two or three links in the dkos thread
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/9/17854/85207
Try them and see if they work (about 2/3 to 3/4 down).

16. love the comments...
----I don't know her name, but she works for MSNBC. My apologies for my wordage, but this wench didn't know what the hell was going on. She made up 75% of what she was saying and exaggerated about 95% of everything that she did know. The message: do you want to be a reporter? All you need to do is have a pretty face and buy a Thesaurus!---

25. thank you so much for this link
these photos are amazing. I liked how he called the owner of the warehouse and got permission to take a truck to drive to Houston. Clever.

My three favorite pictures in no particular order:

1. the untouched Jesus statue surrounded by uprooted 100+ yr old trees.

2. The large metal statue thing that blew across the street and landed perfectly between two parked cars.

3. The car with the caved in roof after a person had been sucked out of their apartment and landed on the car and lived to tell about it. He would have died had he landed on the street. Incredible.
