Shrub fans are too personally invested in the MAN (cult of personality).
Any criticism or disagreement they take PERSONALLY.

This is the problem with heroes, real ones or fake ones like Bush.

Someone I work with occasionally today, in their 40s, a rock and roll fan ("classic rock"), told their assistant they wouldn't buy the new Stones CD because he heard there was "Bush bashing" on it (presumably "sweet neocon" although dude obviously didn't even inform himself enough to find out what it was all about, giving up a band they used to love just based on something he heard on TV or Rush or whatever). And this guy isn't an idiot, he's actually pretty intelligent and quite good at his job.

But too many people here in TX and elsewhere feel they are personally invested, emotionally invested, in Bush. That's why they will eagerly swallow ANY talking point, line, that will tell them "Bush is okay, it's everyone else that is screwed up", even when those lines and talking points lead them into some pretty ridiculous positions and conclusions.

1. "Bush is okay, it's everyone else that is screwed up"
First sign you are off your rocker if you believe that crap:)

Reminds me of the "Beatles vs Stones" arguments I used to have when I was 10. I was Stones and my cousin was Beatles, all the way. If you dared say anything bad about one of those groups, one of us would be all over you!

2. If bush is evil
and you voted for him that must mean you are evil also.
Hard for most folks to come to grips with this.
