Image czar says looting shocks world opinion
Karen Hughes, who officially starts her job today as head of the nation's image-building effort abroad, said Thursday that Hurricane Katrina had complicated her already formidable task.

But while much of the global criticism has centered on the Bush administration's response to the storm, Hughes said something else was a problem for America's image around the world: the crime that followed.

"The images of crime being committed in the face of an awful natural disaster is hard for anyone to understand, people around the world and Americans. It sickens me as an American," she said. "How could criminals prey on vulnerable elderly citizens and children during a time of such horror?"

10. Fire her?
She's doing precisely what she's told to do. She'll ultimately get a medal for this.

She wishes it wasn't THE PRESIDENT who is making the US look so damn bad.

Words don't exist to describe the trashiness of this woman.

13. No, stupid
What shocked the world was the fact that the richest and most powerful country on earth let hundreds of thousands of its own citizens sit starving and abandoned in a toxic lake and did nothing to help them for days. :grr: I listen to the Beeb regularly and read a lot of internet news. That was NOT what was being talked about. God what a dumb b***h. :puke: Spin away, Karen, the truth is already out there.

15. But Bush's loyal fans wouldn't even know what the Beeb is.
And, if you told them, they probably would think that it's French. :eyes:

They'll never read the truth.

14. World opinion was shocked by the complete lack of caring
displayed by the Bush administration. That was what made the survival "looting" necessary in the first place. Any other tales of looting and mayhem have been wildly over-hyped.

16. This is the absolute wrong time for such a comment.
The images shown on the media in regards to "looting" were black people. Is Karen Hughes a racist? Remember, white people "find supplies" and black people "loot".

20. She's right... the crime that followed was and is a problem...
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 11:06 AM by Sapphire Blue
... the crime against humanity committed by the bush administration. So much suffering was inflicted on our fellow citizens by this administration. So many deaths on their hands. Our fellow Americans deliberately abandoned to a putrid hell on earth.

The images of crime, the crimes against humanity, committed by this brutal administration in the face of this catastrophe have been seen by the world... and this is what sickens the world.

22. Looting and shooting went on in Florida for months following
Hurricane Andrew. The interent was not like it is now. And the looting by people who came to "fix" and "rebuild" homes was even worse. And as for looting in NO - Halliburton is getting paid how much to fix the military bases?
