2. Excerpts.
With President George W. Bush promising to speed help to anxious and frustrated survivors of Hurricane Katrina, questions emerged on Friday over the qualifications of those leading the relief effort.
. . . .

A Pew Research Center poll found 67 percent of Americans thought Bush could have done more to speed up relief efforts, and just 28 percent believed he did all he could. The president's approval rating fell to 40 percent, down four points since July to the lowest point Pew has recorded.
. . . .

However, FEMA has suspended its program to give out $2,000 debit cards and said evacuees other than those at the Houston Astrodome will receive direct bank deposits or checks sent by mail.
. . . .
The official death toll surpassed 300 in the two hardest hit states when Louisiana officials said they had confirmed 118 deaths, on top of 201 in neighboring Mississippi. Thousands more may still be missing but the extent of the carnage remains unknown.

"Bush also issued an executive order on Thursday allowing federal contractors rebuilding in the aftermath of the hurricane to pay below the prevailing wage, drawing rebukes from two congressional Democrats who said stricken families need good wages to rebuild their lives. "

8. One Particular Excerpt needs to be a separate thread.

How much money will corporate america get from the rebuilding?

I would start a thread, but perhaps someone with a star should do it.
