Reminder - parents of High School Juniors and Seniors & NCLB
If you haven't yet, make sure that you have opted your child OUT of the NCLB mandatory reporting of your childs information to military recruiters. Names, age, and contact information for your child will be provided to the military unless you formally write a letter to the school district, to be placed in their file, which opts them out of that requirement. Along with that information, a school may also provide: course of classes, club affiliations, after school activities, grade point average and aptitude test results. Most districts will have a form available for this purpose, but not all schools openly advertise the fact that they engage in this practice nor that you can opt your child out very easily.

If you have any questions, google No Child Left Behind or contact your childs school directly for clarification.

I just printed my childs letter for this year and thought I would post a reminder here for those that might have missed this information previously.

1. Student handbook had the opt-out form in it this year
I've heard a few parents raised hell about it.

2. Don't forget to contact JAMRS to get out of the marketing database
that is collecting info about children with no parental permission.

3. testing kids
As a teacher, I welcome the kids to my school, if they make it as far as Nevada. I wonder (silly of me to even think this) if the testing requirements will still be in place for these kids. Total chaos for the schools, but Bush will still hold teachers and schools accountable for bringing traumatized and displaced kids up to grade level.

At least someone will be held accountable for something. Let it be the school system.
