From a co-worker just back from England
Yep, it's official, they think we're a bunch of dimwits for electing this administration...twice and they cannot believe how badly the Katrina catastrophe has been bungled. And a lot of them don't feel bad for us because they think it's our fault for electing such an incompetent leader (not DU but those other people).

7. A perspective from a Canadian
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 01:47 PM by Dante_88
This is my own observations I am not answering for all Canadians.

I lived in the Western United States for 15 years and moved back to Canada 3 months ago.

I have found since being back that most Canadians view Americans as mirrors of their government. If the Bush Administration is allowing these horrors to go on then it must be condoned by the people.

Here in Canada our democracy is setup in such a way that the government rarely gets away with any sneaky shit. They truly work with and for the people (so far anyway) and if they fuck up they answer to it.

To Canadians the concept of a government doing whatever they want to whoever they want to is stuff of fiction or Nazi history, not something that could possibly be going on in the country right next to them.

I have corrected many people here when they say “I hate Americans” and tell them that it’s not the people they hate it’s their corrupt government.

Now being outside of the USA I can see into the rosy colored snow globe that most Americans live in. Here in Canada we get television news from all over the world I watch the international news coverage of the hurricane and they show the bloated bodies floating around the city. I watch the coverage of the war in Iraq and see innocent Iraq’s bleeding and dead in the streets or wailing for their dead loved ones.

I never saw these things on the news when I lived in the US. Reality was twisted and sugar coated then fed back to its citizens without question. You don’t see the carnage and death. If your government allowed these images to be shown I guarantee there would be rioting in the streets.

Most people in the rest of the world don’t know that the US citizen’s visual reality is so controlled by their government. They only see the US yet again allowing this crap to happen and naturally they think that all Americans are in agreement with their government because of course the US is also a democracy and the government is working for and with its citizens.
