Prediction: Cheney becomes "too sick" to be VP, Powell takes over...

ChimpCo hints that this is them throwing Cheney overboard and wants a clean slate for 2004 elections.

6. By "do it", do you mean "accept the office,"
or "be sufficient to slake the thirst of our media for blood?"

9. Don't think Powell would want to do it.
As to whether it would do the trick, I think they are all taineted but perhaps Powell least so. I am sure he would prefer Condi to Powell but if this sinks Cheney, Condi is in the middle of it too.

2. Anyone know what the procedure would be??
If a VP is ill and resigns, does the Prez just pick a replacement or is there a more formal procedure?

7. The president picks
unless the President is dead, and then there is a line of succession. I think Dennis Hastert might be next in line. Gerald Ford was the first president to not be elected, because Nixon's VP resigned, then Nixon appointed Ford, then Nixon resigned.

4. Bush would still be vulnerable
Comedian Chris Rock said that if there were a black VP he'd shoot the president, just so there would be a black president. (Mods: He was KIDDING! :7)--but there may be a lot of people who think that way.

8. Of course they would...
They're desperate. They want to "reach out" to minority voters.

10. I think they will beg Gen. Clark to take Cheney's place.
The pool of acceptable GOP candidates is smaller than a pothole.

11. Hagel just talked himself off the ticket (good on you, Chuck).
He has been pretty vocal about criticising the Adm on WMD.

I don't think Clakr would do it. He's a patriot.

13. Powell is a good soldier,
but he's not the corrupt True Believer that the GOP requires.

14. I believe the president can nominate a new VP
but wouldn't Congress have to approve? I think that's how it went when Agnew resigned and Ford became VP. I also remember that the concense was that Nixon had to pick someone squeeky clean and acceptable to both sides of the eisle. I am sure the same will happen this time. My guess it will be someone from outside of this misadministration.

15. THE SOUTH WILL RISE
Im from California but live in the south now and i have to tell you that there are probably 10 percent of the people that would never vote for a ticket with a black man on it. Im not sure they could vote for Bushs opponent Unless its Grahm or Edwards so they would probably stay home. If i know this then Rover Knows this which means Powell would never happen.
