When that hit and run congressman had that press conference, he talked a lot about how it was affecting him. He killed a man, and he spent 99% of his time in that press conference trying to make it all about him and his feelings and his pain.

It's a common Republican strategy -- if the implications of thinking about how their policies or behaviour affect other people are extremely damning, then turn it around and try to make it seem like how it's affecting you is the most important thing.

And the media is playing right along if they're interviewing Maria, and presenting her story like this, rather than talking about how the victims of Arnold's tortious and criminal acts feel about what he has done, or talking about the social and political implications of behavior like that.
