How about major tax-breaks for persons who open their homes to victims?
This week republicans are scheduled to debate the elimination of the estate tax that will effect about 2% of the population (read: the rich GOP fatcats). Instead of doing that why not eliminate federal taxes for anyone who opens up their home and takes in victims of the hurricane long term?

Grover Nordquist will shit his elitist pants over this but fuck him. Someone should kick the living shit out of him anyway. New Orleans is right now the bathtub being used to drown the federal government. How the hell did some un-elected little fuck like him get so much power anyway?

Could this be a mission for the DU activist corps to get the idea out to the dems in Congress?

Mods: Please excuse my language but I am angry and I want everyone to be angry with me!

1. There actually should be that and more for folks..
who open their homes to victims. I would like to donate to whatever project is willing to distribute donations specifically set to ofset the costs of taking someone in..or a family in..and to assist the victims as they start their new lives and get jobs and find new homes of their own.

3. That is something to think about
We signed up to take in a family. We haven't heard yet if a family will come. We have plenty of room, but will need to buy beds for them and a new (used) refrigerator for the basement kitchen.

We also realize that these people will need some assistance until they can begin working again. There is great public transportation here, but it's not free and we are prepared to assist with this. Medical needs/meds is something else that we are aware that we may have to help them with. Food, toiletries, and clothing are other things that we will have to assist them with.

We go in with eyes wide-open that this will not be easy on the budget, and are quite aware that there probably will be no reimbursement. This is bush* world, ya know. I will try to have donated what I can to make this easier, keep your fingers crossed for me :D
