Gotta love our children
East End students donate change for relief efforts

MIDDLESBORO - Many have seen the news in the recent days. Thousands of refuges from Hurricane Katrina are starved for basic necessities that most of us probably take for granted. Nationwide, relief efforts are at full operation and no matter how big or small, every penny helps.

When Amy Sizemore's fifth grade class at East End Intermediate school witnessed the devastation on their TV screens, they decided they wanted to help in any way they could. Sizemore, along with many fellow teachers dropped what they were doing and focused on helping others.

"We wanted to focus on what we as citizens should do," said Mrs. Sizemore. "Part of the problems we have today is getting the children interested in world events and when they came to class with ideas on how to help the people, I was just touched by how much they cared."

The kids came up with a program called "Change for Change." The program is aimed at raising money to help aid in relief efforts. Originally, Sizemore said they were planning to buy Cumberland Gap Water and send to the disaster stricken gulf coast, and that is still a possibility.
