I almost broke the TV listening to Trent Lott on CNN
He ended with (not an exact quote) "I know how these people feel; they lost their house, I lost my house..." Losing a vacation home is -not- losing your house, you stupid git!

2. PLUS: The president of the United States himself said Lott's
house would be rebuilt. Then laughed! LIke he'd made a clever joke!
the rich have no goddamn clue what these people are living through right now.

I'm sure lobbyists would rebuild Lott's house for free, too.

4. you know what else is annoying me
when these politicians and news people report that the victims are "frustrated"...no frustrated is losing your luggage at the airport, what these people are doing is watching their children die right in front of their eyes and are powerless to stop it...frustrated is a bit of an understatement...don't you think?

5. Try again
Trent Lott is from Pascagoula. He lives there when COngress isnot in session.

It was a perfctly fine comment by someone who has inf fact lost their home.

Obviously he has more resources to recover but losing a home is a horrendoues blow and if anyone in the GOP has the moral authority to empathize. It is him.

6. I don't think so
Did Lott lose his only home, all of his belongings, and (like many victims) his place of employment? Where did Lott sleep on Monday night?

No. No one in the GOP has moral authority to empahathize. Lott was only trotted out because he was the only nationally-known GOP-er who could pretend to empathize, and like a good little segregationist soldier, he did so.

7. Giime me a break
it was his primary residence and it was blown to bits..Its just a bit hypocritical to blast him for his purported lack of empathy when not being the least bit empathetic for his loss.

11. Find your own break
There's nothing hypocritical in my stance; I do not pretend to empathize with Lott, whereas he pretends to empathize with the victims of Katrina.

I, living in western PA, lost (and will lose) more from Katrina than Lott did, relatively speaking.

When Lott actually does some good, like pushing for Dubya's impeachment or donating half of his vast personal fortune to the victims, or personally funding the rebuilding of adequate housing for the victims, then I will believe that his empathy is not just a facade.
