Shepherd Smith -- Hero of the Hurricane?
I'm sure some of this has been talked about before, but I just had to wonder if anyone saw:

* Shepherd Smith saying that people who had been staying at the Hilton, "some of them foreigners, not even from this country," had been taken to the Superdome, where they were put on the busses the people there had been waiting for for four days, "...while the mayor's residents were left sitting on that bridge another day...Bill, things are NOT equal," Shepherd said.

* Then he detailed seeing police cars and National Guard vans riding right past the people on the bridge and said, "Am I saying I know why people were ignored? No, I'm not. Am I saying people were ignored? Yes, sir, I am!"

* I know there's a clip at http://www.crooksandliars.com where he says that the residents aren't being allowed to leave the city. "The federal government will not allow them to leave!" Sean Hannity says, "Well, let's get perspective..." and Smith shouts, "This is perspective! This is the only perspective you need!"

I used to not care for Shepherd Smith at all, but I've got to say now I LOVE this guy! As far as anyone having the sack to tell the truth about what's happening down there, he's the hero of the hurricane in my book.

1. He certainly impressed and surprised me.
It was painful and fascinating to watch a man grow like that, live and on the air.

2. I'm still a bit skeptical of him.

If he's going to try to become a member of the human race, that would be a good thing. That would require him leaving Fox news though.

the bible says (iow i'm authorised to say:)) that yeast empowers the dough (duh! is more like it referring to fox'news' and freepers) so that it rises etc...maybe guys like smith will do something like that in the bushpig media(?)
mind you, it's rather too late, as bush has all but castrated the male population, i mean defanged the ...clipped the eagle's

3. I believe he is from Mississippi so he is probably a little more
emotionally invested than others.

I've never cared for him but he deserves respect for his compassion shown to the affected residents.

5. Shepherd is from a small town well-heeled Mississippi family not
far from where I live. Given Mississippi history, I know this is hard for some people to understand. However, when you grow up in a small Northeast Mississippi town, many times you get to know people on a human scale. It may be noblesse oblige or it may be simple human decency, but my guess is that Shepherd's small town upbringing didn't totally leave him and he decided to choose truth over politics. Good for him. If this is the beginning of his truth telling career, then he has a chance to go far as a journalist. However, if he falls back into being a Neoconservative apologist, then he will be seen as nothing but a journalistic hack. Let's hope that Shepherd decides on truth which will probably mean an immediate job change from Fox.

8. Just saw that clip.
I have not seen such honest reporting in 6 years. It was simply jaw-dropping, astonishing, appalling, heart-wrenching, I can't even say any more. What are they doing to those people in that convention center? It's like they're killing them on purpose! And I have NEVER worn a tin foil hat.

9. What the???
OK get a grip folks.

The heroes are the rescuers, the average citizens, those that survived and helped. Those that survived.

Don't even begin to speak of meme creation re: reporters.

They might draw attention--they might be "first responders" of the media, but they have food, clothing, and a relatively safe place to stay.

THey are not risking their lives to save others

They have propped up a regime whose actions have caused and/or exacerbated the human suffering in 3+ states.

Smith, Anderson, Lawrence, Rivera, Meserve, etc. are not heroes.

They are only beginning to atone for the damage they helped cause.
