Governor Blanco is going to have get tough with this bunch
Throw the southern etique out and be firm. Watching her interview with Miles this morning shows that she is tired and a bit overwhelmed with this DAUNTING catastrophe--which is HIGHLY UNDERSTANDABLE considering this has never happened in this country before. She is a new governor and I know she really cares. Her interview this morning was so different than the one yesterday with Haley Barbour. She didn't once blame the people for staying like Barbour did and she shows true compassion. This looks to be tearing her up inside. With that said, now is the time to get some good people on her side and kick ass.

She can do this and IS doing all she can under the circumstances. We cannot let her take the blame for this. The repubs stand by their own and we should stand behind her. If it was obvious neglect and carelessness on her part that would be different, but I really believe she is doing all she can with what she has to work with.

But she is going to have to get tough with Bush and the reporters trying to pin the blame on her. She's good for Louisiana and we need her.

Shoot to kill, troops told - Sydney Morning Herald

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 09:48 PM by NNN0LHI

http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/shoot-to-kill-troops-t...

As thousands wait to be rescued or receive aid, authorities have issued a "shoot to kill" order in a bid to stem the mounting lawlessness in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans.

Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco said a detachment of 300 National Guard troops, who have served in Iraq, had been authorised to shoot to kill "hoodlums" in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans.

"Three hundred of the Arkansas National Guard have landed in the city of New Orleans," Blanco said.

"These troops are fresh back from Iraq, well-trained, experienced, battle-tested and under my orders to restore order in the streets," Blanco said.

"They have M-16s and they are locked and loaded.

"These troops know how to shoot and kill and they are more than willing to do so if necessary and I expect they will," said Blanco.

11. Her way isn't working any more
This is not the time for PC answers. It's not a campaign for re-elections. It's time for her to get as pissed as the mayor and let the whole world know it.

2. I agree. Miles O'Brien was just too rough on her today. She is dead
on her feet--overtired. I hope someone is taking care of her but it sure did not look like it this morning!

6. can't believe I am saying this but it is the female/male thing going on
regarding how each is handling this situation.
But Barbour has a different situation--he does not have the water problem.

12. well, you may have a point
in the south, women are taught to be nice and "dont talk back" at a young age (or so it was when I was growing up) Strong women are looked down on --look how they treat Hillary--so maybe that is in play here. One thing is for sure, she HAS GOT TO GET TOUGH WITH THEM!

13. True
Blanco has a strong argument pointing at the feds - Mississippi isn't seeing relief either, so we know that this isn't a Louisiana-specific problem. As of last night, FEMA presence on the Mississippi coast was scarce.

15. yeah, but she was a teacher
and she is more of a "educate to do better" governor--if that makes sense. She really does care. The dimisions of political office are wide and now she is seeing that her role is changing.

17. The People In Louisana Seem To Know
Listening to the calls to WWL Radio last night, there was a lot of support for Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco. The anger has been directed at meeester boosh and his criminal enterprise.

I'm not just talking about black or minority voters, I was hearing call after call of male whites...several who openly admitted to supporting booosh and the Repugnicans...coming down real hard on their feckless leader. Yesterday could have turned some very deep red states a little more purple.

While Faux can spin and lie this story into a race riot, the people on the ground know whose responsible for this clusterfuck...George W. Bush.

18. I agree with your assessment
I remember when her son was killed, electricuted on the job....she showed such grace. She is known for her grace, but also for her iron will. As a woman, she expresses her iron will with graciousness, which is unfortunately being portrayed as weakness. I saw her on a local press conf, and she was as tough as nails...but, nationally, she comes across as gentle. I have been talking to my relatives and friends all over the state. Most of them are repukes, unfortunately, but all of them talk about what a rock Kathleen has been...all citizens of LA are looking to her now for leadership, but also for comfort. They are getting it, IMHO.
