Time to boycott NASCAR?

I have been saying this over and over for the past 3 yrs or so. It is time for NASCAR to die and fade away. These bastards are 10 times worse in the consumption of our valuable fossil fuels than the biggest of the big fat ugly gas guzzling SUVs. Millions of gallons are wasted every day just to see who is more of a man by getting his car to go faster than everyone elses. These bastards need to be demonized IMHO. Any comments?

I think it's the underlying attitude of the US. Nascar is a waste of fuel. Crisis or not. Just as driving to work is when public transit is available. Just is blasting your A/C when you're not home. Okay, I took a deep breath before I started my post, because I'll tell you, some of the stuff posted on this thread really makes me mad. If you don't like NASCAR, fine. If you think it's stupid, fine. But please don't lump all fans together. There happen to be a number of NASCAR fans who are also DUer's, and we come from all over the United States (and other places as well). I am not a stupid, dumb-assed hick who thinks * walks on water. I am not an ignoramous, a dumb-shit, or a freeptard. I am an intelligent, caring, thoughtful progressive human being who happens to like NASCAR, because I grew up watching my parents race, and it's just a part of my life.

Racing is no "stupider" than baseball (grown men hitting little balls with sticks), football (grown men tackling each other to get a funny-shaped ball), golf (grown men in funny pants, walking -- thanks Rosie O!), soccer (grown men and women kicking a black and white ball across a field), ice hockey (grown men beating the crap out of each other while trying to hit an object the size of a bisquit), or any number of other sports. (And, I happen to like many of these sports.)

So, have your opinions -- certainly I have mine -- but stop stop stop slamming people who happen to like a certain one.

Oh, and one more thing -- the rudest, crudest, meanest, nastiest crowd I have ever been in was at an NFL football game. I've been to 5 NASCAR races, and all those people tied in a knot have nothing on that one crowd at the NFL game!
