Congress and Senate reconvening
Just called the office of my Congressman, Earl Bluemenaur. They said that a special session of congress is being called for tomorrow. There are supposed to be special arrangements being made for the congresspeople who can't make it back so they can complete business.

Also called the office of my Senator, Ron Wyden (D). He has been in D.C. all week. The senate is meeting today to authorize a $10 billion disaster relief bill.

Finally, called the office of Senator Gorden Smith (R). They were singularly unhelpful. Didn't know what he was doing to aid relief efforts. Didn't know where he was. Didn't know that the senate was convening. Didn't think anyone was in D.C. Didn't want my name and contact info. Couldn't wait to get me off the phone. Unbelievable.

1. Smith is a first class a-hole.
I was a student at UO when he was running for that seat. He attempted to speak to students at the EMU and left a few short moments after arriving. Apparently he didn't like what we had to say.

2. I just called the White House
I got a recording that all comment operators were busy...I could hold or call back. I held for ten minutes then the recording changed to say that i could leave my comment if I pressed 1. I pressed 1 and I was told that the comment office was closed now and that I could call back later...then they hung up.

I get the feeling that the nation is calling for action and there's nobody home.

I was prompted to call the White House because I read that no one has dropped food and water for the stranded people since this began 5 days ago. WTF?
