The Calvery is HERE (USMC)
Don't know anything much, but the USMC has apparently arrived in downtown NOLA in force!!! Probably from the LDH carrier that is steaming offshore (part of a MEU).

1. Order is job #1
so all humanitarian efforts can proceed....

National Guard and soldiers should have gone in FIRST to maintain order so the populace could be organized to PARTICIPATE in their own relief/evacuation efforts....

Damn this makes me mad!!!!

12. So right ewagner!
Pisses me off too, that they weren't in there Monday afternoon before all this shit started.

They definitely have to get control and get people working together on their own survival.

2. The LA Governor requested 40,000 troops
she was told she would get as much as she needs for as long as she needs.

5. Probably not
these are infantry.

However, once they can secure helioports and roads, the water can come in.

8. if they can restore order quickly (in a few hours)
it might be better to do that first. The sight of water might set off a riot, like throwing gasoline on a fire. How I wish they'd had this many boots on the ground from the start, so things wouldn't have come to such a pass and people wouldn't be so desperately hungry and thirsty.

13. Yes..me too.
As soon as they can establish order, other relief efforts can start en force - water, food, shelter.

16. No, that would have been "calvary" - no "e" in it either!

By the way, this is good news - if it turns out to be true, and if the SIZE of the forces entering NO are adaquate.

By the way, that "interdictor" blog on livejournal is about one of the best for up-to-the-minute info.

I'm really surprised and concerned about the SLOWNESS of government response. It should really be about doing EVERYTHING as fast as possible, as all Issues to be dealt with intersect with and affect each other: fix the levees then restart the pumps, restore order (stop looting and violence), rescue those trapped, get an armada of busses to get the superdome people out, get water to the city, etc. etc. EVERYTHING needs to be done at the SAME TIME. I guess it really is just that NO-ONE's in charge. And no one around the Little Emperor is stepping up to the plate. I almost want to say, where's Al Haig when you need him?

14. Isn't it against the law to use the miltary for police enforcement?
Or does this mean that NO is under marshall law?

22. Did they bring any LCACs? They could ride them suckers right over
the levees into town, and bring a HELL of a lot of food and water with them.

But I don't suppose any of the authorities, the people responsible, the people in charge thought of that little thing.
