Where is rich Hollywood? Harrison Ford's plane?
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 01:06 PM by dejaboutique
If I were that rich I would fly over and drop some food, or offer to help, unless I was making a movie of course lol! I havent seen hide nor hair of the people we make soooo rich by watching their movies and tv shows. Only person I have seen is Bret Farve. I am sure they could at least put some phone calls in to the president and pressure his ass to get some help. They could get on t.v. and DEMAND that these people get help. I can't do that.

1. I believe that Ford actually has performed rescue missions in the past.
Besides, just because a person is rich, doesn't mean that they have the wherewithal to save people.

Take Chimpy for example.

15. More than once
He's an okay guy. And one that does NOT like to have what he does publicized.

2. Where is your government???
That should be the only questioned asked, imo. To try and shift blame to individuals instead of the agency responsible for acting on this is ridiculous.

3. Oh please. That's pathetic.
You have no idea what they have and will donate in money and time. Just hopping in a plane is, quite frankly, a rather dumb suggestion.

Those darn Hollywood Liberals, right?

4. I bet they can make a few phone calls
Bush and Clinton both knew a lot of celebrities. Fuck if I had the means I would parachute in with some food. I feel pretty helpless in what I can do, its just a call for help.

25. A few phone calls...saying what?
What would they say that everyone doesn't already know about? Tell them to do something? I think they get that without celebs calling them up.

5. I heard Morgan Freeman is organizing relief fundraisers
including a celebrity auction and perhaps other events to raise funds. There are a couple of benefit concerts/fundraisers I've heard of. Who knows what Harrison Ford has done?

Of course, his private plane pales in comparison to the resources the bush cabal has at their disposal, should they really want to address the situation.

7. Ford has no plane.
Most of his money has been spent buying up land for animal migration throughout north and south America.

Where's your money, help and SUV?

9. Yeah, flying your personal plane over the flood area is a good idea
Why not disrupt any efforts currently underway with your yahoo heroics.

I wish I could nominate for stupidest fucking post of the day. Jesus.

Oh, and by the way, it happens not to be the job of movie stars to extricate people from natural disasters. It happens to be the job of fucking government. Unfortunately, our federal government is currently under the control of incompetents, so the job ain't being done. get real.

17. Is this the new right-wing meme? They tried to shift the blame to
other nations but that didn't work, then they tried to shift the blame to the Red Cross and that doesn't seem to have worked so now it is the rich 'Hollywood liberal elite' that are to blame? There is NOTHING they can say that will save bush on this one, NOTHING, imo, so they should just stop trying.

19. So half a million idiots can complain about being lectured
by Hollywood elitists? Please.

They should be engaged in organizing relief benefits, which is I'm sure what many are currently doing. This is not the time for celebrities to get in front of the camera. It's time for Bush and his pack of inbcompetent cronies to get their fucking act together, finally and at last, and start saving people's lives, for a goddamn change.

18. It might be stupid, but we are beyond desparation
While the OP idea was not feasible and little on the extreme side, the overall message is sound and true: Since our government isn't doing anything, why can't we?

11. Where is Toby Keith?
Why isn't he wrapping his flag around those dying babies in his red states?

He's a big guy. Much stronger looking than Harry Connick. I'm sure he could lend a hand.

only "authority figure" willing to take charge of the horrific situation at the NO convention center.

28. I heard Harry Conick, Jr.
He was talking to Ron Reagan on MSNBC. The cutaway was surreal--Ron Reagan talking about how "lawlessness" is taking over the city and there is no civil authority governing how relief efforts are organized, and then we cut away to--Harry Conick, Jr.?? Is he some sort of crowd control expert now?

Harry himself was practically sobbing into the phone. He said at the superdome, he'd seen at least 3 elderly people on the verge of death, and many babies close to death. Over and over, he was begging _anyone_ to send help immediately.

Meanwhile, Bush is meeting with Alan Greenspan to see how his investors will be affected by the hurricane.

So now it's official: George diddles while New Orleans drowns.

29. Harry Connick, Sr., was DA of Orleans County for 29 years.
So his son knows a bit about how the city is run. He cares about New Orleans & is using his fame to get the message across.

16. So if Harrison Ford were to pop in his copter and head towards NO..
What is he to do? He may save one or two people... but he can't save them all - plus, where is he to take them? This needs a coordinated effort - not one or two people. This is why we pay taxes... to have a national guard and coast guard help when we need it.

You know, the vultures who are going to make an absolute killing on oil stocks?

If any members of the public should chip in and help, let's start with them.

23. Harry Connick was in the Convention Center
this morning, calling out to MSNBC(?). He was describing what was happening and pleading for food and water. He was very distraught over this, like the rest of us. One or two people, or a handful of people can't do much. That is why we have GOVERNMENT! Our government is failing us - more and more every day.

After all, they're going to make an obscene fortune off this disaster.

The oil cartel in America is nothing but a bunch of thieves.
