FEMA director saying no one predicted Katrina would be so bad
Live, on Larry King, right now.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. It was predicted everywhere in the week preceding the event. What the fuck is this guy smoking.

.....and he's in charge of cleaning up this mess?

We're fucked!!

18. Gee, my recollection is that ...
"We" thought it was going to be SO bad that local governments issued mandatory evacuations for millions of people ... and gathered info from those that refused so that (if necessary) their bodies could be identified.

Just prior to the hurricane making landfall I stated that it was awful realizing that a city may no longer exist ...

IDIOT!

Someone has to call in to ask this?!

Why can't Larry King ask this guy about his former job? Why can't Larry King call this FEMA doof out on his bullshit statement that no one predicted this? When it was just a day or two ago that people were screaming that this was a monster storm.

The media is the enemy, not the watchdog.

On Edit, I don't mean to be bashing you, it's just that the media is so effing lame, I can't take much more of the b.s.

Also, to agree with the original poster: we are truly fucked.

I'm pretty pissed off myself. I live in Louisiana, fortunately not in the path of the storm, but have/had(?) an apartment in the quarter and I dearly love that city.

This is beyond incompetence and gross neglect.

Bush is so utterly useless as president that its hard to believe that so many millions still support this idiot.

I'm disgusted beyond belief

13. Such Catastrophe Has Been Predicted For Years
But not as Katrina. Emergency Managers were well aware that the levees in NOLA could only hold back a moderate hurricane and that the storm surge from a severe hurricane would breach the levees and flood the city, potentially causing thousands of deaths. That is why NOLA was trying to get money to improve its levees.

20. They Gambled, But Innocents Lost
their lives, that is.

I stand by my assertation in other threads that this is our 9-11 for natural disasters. I hope the death toll is lower, but I also hope we study what went wrong and do everything we can to prevent such a catastrophe from occurring again. We are going into a more active hurricane era (you can blame it on human induced global warming or a natural cycle, but the result is the same) so there is no way to know that such a strom wouldn't happen again, mabye sooner rather than later. On Sunday, some talking head called Katrina the storm of a lifetime, but I don't think we should count on it.

30. In third world countries when natural disaster hit, it's always the
poor who suffer the most. So if anyone ever had a doubt that we are a third world country, the proof is here. You know there was a time after the New Deal and the War on Poverty that we didn't have homeless. We had poor people but they had places to live and basic necessities.

I remember my husband saying to me, in the early eighties when the main commercial street up from where we lived was filling up with homeles, that our city was beginning to resemble Calcutta, a place he had once visited.

44. Third World Countries Have High Death Tolls, Too
Civilized, advanced countries do not.

That is what I always thought when I heard about like Hurricane Mitch killing 10,000 in Central America. Well, those are poor undeveloped countries, that is why so many died. We are an advanced nation, that is why death tolls from our hurricanes are under 100.

What a fool I was.

This is a name I need to remember. This is a guy I want to go look up one of these days when he's rolling in his own urine in a gutter somewhere.

HAS THIS ADMINISTRATION EVER TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE SINGLE GODDAMNED THING?

-Condi couldn't have known about the planes.
-dipshit "inherited" a recession from Clinton
-and then September 11th happened, which further fucked the economy.
-and then the Iraqis made us take the war to them.

And on and on.

So what's the FEMA jerkoff's name? And who has a Lexis/Nexis login?

29. Give me a F***ING break!
New Orleans, whether a direct hit or side-swiped, was predicted to take a hit from a Cat 4-5 hurricane. The city is below sea level, below Lake Ponchartrain lake level, and was protected only by earthen dams. It was a disaster waiting to happen, and now that asswipe from FEMA is covering the collective ass of the Bush and the neocon friends. Since 2003 it has been a part of the BushCo Homeland Security, kiss my fucking ass. And this same group of greedy misanthropes also have seen fit to retract an ungodly amount of funding that was supposed to be in place to protect New Orleans from disaster...an unprecedented move...fuckwads.
Bush is such a total fuck up. The well-laid plans of the GOP and the PNAC miscalculated when they propped the Bozo King up to be their world puppet playing the leader of a country in the free world...shitpile m'fuckers.

You know those guys who track the damn thing. Called the Mayor of NO personally and told him that this was the big one. See below:

I think there is a very good possibility it will indeed get stronger," Max Mayfield, director of the U.S. National Hurricane Center, told WSVN television in Miami.

"This hurricane has the potential to cause extreme damage and large loss of lives if they don't take action very soon."
