I am interested in hearing your thoughts. . .and what we can do that will really have an impact. With Rush it has to be a multilateral attack, I don't think just a simple boycott will work. There has to be letters to the editor, presidential candidates speaking up (thanks Gen. Clark and Gov. Dean), etc.

1. We need to push the idea that he did not apologize, and

he still doesn't get it! He says the uproar proves he was right! The man must be painted for the imbecilic racist that he is... and people need to be reminded of Trent Lott; this is not one repug, it is many, many repugs. The stink needs to spread to the whole gang of thugs and racists who don't even see why their views and comments are repugnant!

2. I saw the interview, read the stories

He expressed an opinion that I generally disagree with (except that McNabb is overrated, which he is.) If he thinks some people want McNabb to succeed because he's black, guess what, that's true. Maybe not as many as in his swollen head, but yes it IS true.

As a black man, I can tell you, I've seen it.

4. You are right to an extent. . .

. . .a number of white journalists could have made the exact same comment and it would not have been nearly as controversial. The problem for Rush is that his record on race is questionable at best.

5. Nevertheless

Hang someone for something they do, not for what you infer from it.

The overhype of McNabb, in my opinion, is more closely related to stat junkies who love the fact that he runs and passes and helps their fantasy teams.

6. Like his comments on NFL policies on interviewing black coaches

He was actually correct in criticizing the way that Detroit was forced to interview black coaches as candidates for their head coaching vacancy, even though they had already decided on Steve Mariucci. The problem was that it came from HIS mouth, and given his record, it is AUTOMATIC to assume race-baiting.

However, his comments on McNabb were beyond the pale. As for those who think he's overrated -- I used to as well, but when he finished that game last year on a broken leg, he made much more of a believer out of me. Plus, everything he has done has been without a big-play receiver, better-than-average tight end, or star feature back (Staley has been injury-plagued the past 2 years).

3. I look at Rush's comments as a "connect-the-dots" exercise

When you read the comment he made about McNabb, they can definitely be ambiguous. Of course, knowing his history, it is all too easy for us to infer his meaning, but it's also easy for him to deny the accusations of racism. Just look at his response -- that he was making a criticism of the MEDIA.

But that's what makes what he did even more sinister and reprehensible. He realizes that he is a propagandist, and as such, his job is to plant seeds in the minds of people to sow hatred and divisiveness. The TONE of his comment was along the lines of, "See... a black quarterback (or coach) cannot be successful in the NFL without the media hyping them." The average Joe sitting at home might see this as another example of "preferential treatment" of blacks over whites. The basic premise in his comment is that black quarterbacks and coaches are not as good as whites -- even if he doesn't come right out and say it.

Going after his enablers is something I'm all for -- but it's a gargantuan task. What you're proposing is that we essentially go after entities that control the vast majority of what Americans see and hear. Perhaps a sustained LTTE campaign would help to shed light on Rush -- but I don't really think that we can expect most people to join us in making the connection to his enablers.
