3. Exactly. On 9/11 hundreds of people were saved by NJ Transit conductors
who took their empty trains BACK INTO the WTC to pick people up on the platforms beneath the Towers and got back out in the nick of time. Why doesn't the PRESIDENT order Amtrak to help evacuate NOLA?

6. So I did call and reached someone with Amtrak in management,
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 04:25 PM by caligirl
he says they had benn in contact with enmergency services down there for some time , in discussions about this. They were supposed to have used some amtrak traions to assist in evacuasted those infirmed and elderly etc, prioritized passengers. But that was supposed to have happened two days ago. Then he said they had to pull their equipment out of their. I didn't understand his reason for this. He offered to give me more information on this if I would call back tomorrow. but the bottom line is they did engage the proper people in discusssions to do ewhat we are talking about and to soime degree they did evacuate some, but he was enroute to Chicago, out of his office today, and so he did not have specifics on this.

10. At this point its up to them and if it
were me I'd be on a bike or foot and walk out. In the bay area we know we may not be able to drive home after the big one, they advise you keep food and walking shoes, etc, in the trunk of your car. It could take some people days to walk home here.

Emergency services may be culpable for thousands of deaths for not having this part well planned in advance. Otherwise they seemed to have done alright.

5. unconscionable. so much for the mayor saying take the train out. it would
be the safest and fastest way out!

this is unacceptable!! they have, easily, ten more hours they could be RESCUING PEOPLE!!

if i were a NO resident, i'd sue 'em next week - class action.

peace
