I'd Love to Know What She Is Thinking -PIX->>>
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 08:15 PM by Stephanie

She seems very moved. She is treasuring that cross. I'm glad they let her take it.

Wells, of Egremont, Mass., carries the memorial cross that she picked up along the road with her husband's name on it, near the original Camp Casey, in Crawford, Texas, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005. Dozens of family members are upset that their family member's name is listed on the memorial crosses that were placed by anti-war protestors. about why she is there to me... I see respect for the other crosses in her eyes in the first pic.

So sad. I feel for her.

Chief Warrant Officer Stephen M. Wells, 29, Egremont, Mass.
Wells was killed Feb. 25, 2004 when his helicopter crashed in Habbaniyah. He was a pilot with Outlaw Troop, and was three weeks away from returning to his unit's base in Colorado. He liked to take his three sons for hikes, build rockets with them, and look at the stars with a telescope. In September, he had returned from duty in Korea to be at the funeral of his beloved grandfather, Elimar Peters, a World War II veteran. While in Egremont, he had been a junior firefighter, and he and his wife Tosha were married in the North Egremont fire station.

6. God Bless her
I wish her nothing but the best. She'll live with her husband's death for the rest of her life.

How her husband's memory is represented is entirely up to her.

I just hope she knows that the people who placed those crosses really did care.

16. I agree. As much as I support
Camp Casey and Cindy Sheehan, I think they should have checked with the families first before putting their KIA family member's names on a cross and putting it in the memorial. Each family has the right to determine how their loved one's memory will be honored.

But you're right, I hope she and the other families who removed the crosses are aware of how much we really do care and that it was not just for publicity and politicization purposes.

18. I disagree with that
It's not a private matter. The men and women who die in Iraq have their names and faces displayed on the nightly news, in newspapers and on websites. Their deaths are a fact of history and current events. You can't restrict how that information is depicted. They didn't ask permission of the families before their names were put on the Vietnam Memorial.

30. I agree with you. Though I would say yes I'd hope they ask first.
How a loved one is remembered and their name used after death is a family decision.

31. So should the nightly news be allowed to show their photos?
Those tributes to those KIA at the end of the broadcasts - should the families have to give permission before they're aired?

33. Initially they don't because of the pentagon. After the initial death they
do ask for more recent photos in effect asking for permission.

38. the crosses stand proud and straight
as if in formation with their fellow fallen commrades......this is not an unpatriotic insult to them.....this shows respect.

And what will she do with the cross?.Bury it in a closet or drawer?.Just what bush wants.out of sight .out of mind.....the fallen soldiers who died (to him) are just that.a twig that was broken and cast away...they had no names....and the right is using the same tactic.....take the name off and what do you have......wood for kindling in a fire out of control

39. I totally agree that it's not an unpatriotic
insult to them at all, but just as Cindy has the right to honor her son's memory the way she wants, so do other family members who may feel differently.

9. She was used by the wingnuts
They needed someone to pick that cross up out of the ground and get a photo op.
However, something about her demeanor tells me that she wished she could just walk away and leave it with the others.
Maybe it's my wishful thinking.
I feel horrible for her family and their loss.

17. "She was used by the wingnuts"
Substitute "liberals" for "wingnuts" and see what you get. Cindy Sheehan is taking the high road, and gaining much respect from people; some of whom otherwise disapprove of her message. Let's try to keep it that way. That Gold Star Mother has EARNED the right to do whatever she feels necessary. But as for the Freepers?? ... drop a few aggressive recruiting sergeants in their midst ... and watch them SCATTER!

This wasn't intended as a rebuke; it's certainly an easy conclusion to reach. But it isn't necessary; Cindy is so far ahead, it's (almost) pitiful for the Freepers.

21. I know what I don't see.
Any anger whatsoever. There are so many emotions running through a person at a moment such as this, so it's hard to say for sure.

Her face in the second pic is fondness for the name on that cross, but the first one is simply a rush of emotions. She seems confused by it all, perhaps because it isn't the evil librul doings she'd been told it would be.

i get the feeling the woman knows what is happening around her and she just wants to take the cross back to her home. it is now not just a symbol but it is now part of her . it was a cross from one mother to the wife of another soldier who died in this insanity...
