4. Lovely.
A wonderful picture of Jeff Keys too, I had been looking for one. HAHA I met Archie, we were parked next to him and spoke with him for a while. The funny thing was that I am from Kansas and he is from a part of Missouri that has an accent I could NOT understand. It was like talking to someone from another country. His heart is in the right place. He was making a trip into town for more food and water. He is a very happy guy.

That is the best yet. He did not crack a note the two times I heard him. Did you know that Joan slept out among the crosses one night when Jeff had gotten upset that people were not honoring it enough. She is some woman.

45. When I saw her in the photo in the OP ...
I thought - "what a gorgeous woman". I didn't realize who this was. Though I almost could have met her maybe though not likely at a hotel in Lago di Como, Italy. I ran into her crew waiting for her outside the hotel ... but I had just spent the evening with a bottle of wine and a couple of male models (ya know, up from Milan) listening to Phish perform. Awesome, right? Alas, the boys were gay ... I'm a girl ... wine gives me the spins and I'm just not that into Phish - so I called it a night.

The man in the brown t-shirt that says "bush lied, my son died". His sorrow is so heavy, I wish I could carry some of that for him.

Second pic from the bottom, the woman in the middle. Is that one of the GS Moms who came from Georgia?

The woman in the first photo, holding the baby -

I recognize her from a news article covering the peace vigil in Idaho last week. I only remember her last name - House. Her husband was killed in Iraq. Their baby son is only eight months old.

The tattoo on her arm is in memory of her husband and says someting like "where you go, I will go".

It just breaks my heart.

Thanks for reminding me of his name, and for letting us know that the other woman was his mother.

I was so struck by the photo of the mother and baby that accompanied the Idaho article that I saved it to my desktop. I have no idea why really. I guess I just didn't want to ever forget her.

Near the beginning of the war, when reading about one of the first casualties, a photo of the soldier (marine?)'s son saluting and holding a picture of his father really "got to me" too. The name was Watersbey or Waters-Bey (can you tell I'm bad with names?) I saved that photo, too. The boys eyes haunt me. From what I can remember the father (grandfather) was furious with Bush, and was saying at the time that Bush took his only son.

I wonder if the father has traveled to Crawford? I don't know that I would recognize him. But, I'm sure I will never forget that boys face.

on edit - a link to a story about Waters-Bey and his families reaction.

60. yes, I remember
I remember that photograph and the story about the boy's grandfather and what he had to say about bush. Like you said, it was one of the very first, if not the first story I remember seeing about a US "casualty" after the invasion. Hard to believe that was almost two and a half years ago.

This is so sad and it's only the tiniest little bit of the tip of the iceberg...

51. This picture sums out how little w failed as a uniter. Bush supporters
take the low road as the crosses take the high road. Funny how little w is their little god. How can anyone support anyone that has a road down the middle of a country? Little w needs to get off his high fake horse and face reality, every day another cross out numbers the plastic signs of a little w supporter. Little w will go down in history as nothing but a failure to deliver anything but big tax cuts and war deals for rich profiteers. Congratulations little w supporters, you stand behind a boy who lied about all the reasons to put young eager honorable men into the ground with nothing but a white cross above their bodies. I'm sick of little w and his little pack of mean wolves, can we start the impeachment process now!

53. PICS from the freeper rally

Check this out, the freepers were too dumb to understand the Protest Warriors signs and turned on their own.

Jeff Paterson writes:

The Protest Warriors are young people who usually appear at anti-war related activities with slogans based on “right-wing irony,” such as “War Has Never Solved Anything (except for everything).” However, in a odd turn of events, and despite repeated pleadings that “we are on your side, we are on the right,” the rally turned on these kids. Shouting “Cindy Go Home!” a small mob gathered around the three or four Protest Warriors, attacked their oversized signs, and began stomping on the signs.

Visibly shaken, the Protest Warriors beat a retreat from the rally to the chants of “Get Out of Here Liars!” Over and over again, “We are on your side” were meet by “Liars!” One man clarified that even if they were trying to support the war, they were confusing people, and that “it is the devil who wanted to sew confusion.” It is safe to say that irony, or any opinions that hinted at “shades of gray” were not welcome in Bush Country.
