Ohio GOP Reeling With Gov.'s Conviction

GROVE CITY, Ohio -- In November, Ohio was at the center of the national political stage, delivering the White House to President Bush.

Eight months later, the state's Republican Party is reeling: its leader convicted of ethics violations; a narrow win in a gimmie congressional district; an investment scandal that won't go away.

The troubles play out as the casualty rate climbs from the war in Iraq and the state economy remains stuck in a slump. The war could hurt Bush's standing in Ohio, mirroring a decline in his popularity nationally. His overall job approval was at 42 percent in a recent poll, with just 38 percent approving of his handling of Iraq.

Diane McCune, who lives in this solidly GOP Columbus suburb, bucked her Democratic roots twice and voted for President Bush, but now she's having second thoughts.

"I'm not feeling so good," McCune said. "I think we maybe made a mistake putting him in there."

2. They should have major doubts about their votes, period.
Kudos to the Honorable John Conyers for pursuing these matters.

7. Republicans are smashing at any weak link to get their way.
We'd better dig deep in any potentially troubled areas and find the damage before it blooms.

Pray that Ahnold doesn't get to re-district California, an ever-troublesome State for the Republicans.

9. Don't Blame Ohio, it was stolen.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x384064

Ohio was the Super Bowl, no the World Cup, of voter suppression, lousy machines, biased Boards of Elections, payoffs, and a pre packaged, pre planned "victory" for you know who. If you're a "coincidence theorist" then it's all good but if you take a look, or better yet, talk to Ohio folks, you'll get the truth.

They did their thing, now we need to do ours and help expose the lies.

20. No doubt it was stolen, but, hell, didn't that lady watch the debates?
I really don't see how any SANE person could have watched those debates and voted for Bush.

11. Ohio constitution does not allow impeachment or recall of governor
USA Today article yesterday said that he cannot be recalled or impeached. All the top Ohio officials are Repubs anyway so he will be simply replaced with another Repub if they convince him to resign.

19. True, but those that did and now regret it should've known better
COULD'VE known better much sooner, like the woman in the article, but didn't bother to make the time or the effort. No, it wouldn't have changed the results in Ohio, those were predetermined, but there's still no excuse for them. Now she's "not feeling so good?" I hope she has nightmares every night.

All the information was there, Ms. McCune. Nothing has changed since you pulled the Bush lever. What is "not feeling so good now"? :eyes:

22. I understand all the contempt towards Ms. McCune and others like her BUT
if we can take control of the Congress or at least the Senate (I know this is next to impossible) next year, it will definitely make things very difficult for * and his agenda. Any gain we make at least makes it more difficult for this administration so we need to pull all of the Ms. McCune's we can find in and welcome them with open arms and keep them with us by informing them of the truth.

Yeah, it was stolen. But this women quoted with regrets, she admittedly voted for Bush twice.

Honestly, I hope her life gets worse. I hope gas prices hit her where it hurts, and I hope she isn't able to get health coverage.

That's what she voted for.
