Some comfort for ESPN viewers
Anyone else remember this?

http://www.tvbarn.com/lsn-archive/lsn-022895

"Frontline" also includes excerpts from what may have been the worst single-night performance in the history of late night, Rush's appearance as host of CBS's "Midnight Hour" (a/k/a "The Pat Sajak Show" after Pat) in 1990. The studio audience was teeming with Rush hecklers who forced numerous retakes. Four hours into taping, a visibly shaken host concluded in an empty studio. A CBS executive said later, "I've never seen a man sweat as much in my life." This disaster may explain why Rush makes no attempt to create a television persona. Certainly he has the talent to do it, but to succeed in TV talk requires give and take with guests, including the disagreeable ones, and that may be a challenge too daunting for his frail ego.

1. Why would Rush sweat now?
O'Reilly and Hannity have perfected the abusive steamrolling of guests on TV. I see no reason why Rush will not do the same.

The landscape in 2003 is much different than 1990. The dumbing down of America has left us with a large segment of the population that thinks what they see on Fox is discussion and balanced reporting. The climate is perfect for Rush.

It should be a matter of great concern to all that political ideologues are finding their way into mainstream entertainment. This is an obvious move by the right to push their insufferable views onto all forums and venues to make their radicalism seem normal.

4. welcome kc
:toast:

The climate appears to be drifting our way. The right wing extremists have never really reflected the popular view and the more they get exposed, the more people say, "What the hell is this shit?" I say, "Bring 'em on!"

3. He's going to be "the voice of the people"
On NFL Countdown on Sundays. I find no comfort in any of this. First of all, there is no audience for NFL Countdown to heckle this moron. Secondly - and most importantly here - who the hell thinks this man could speak as the "voice of the people"? WTF is that? Supposedly he is going to throw questions at the real football experts on the show, as if the "people" are asking the questions. There will be no heckling, there will be lots of prepration and there will be no chiding. I can assure you that this lardass will be treated as "just one of the guys". My husband and I have been watching NFL Countdown for years. We're huge football fans and have always appreciated the knowledge that is dispensed by these guys as well as the humor and comradarie among them. Last night I told my husband I will no longer watch NFL Countdown - it is now banned from our TV. He will have to go to another room in the house prior to Sunday games, if he wants to watch this bozo add no credibility to an otherwise efficient, smart and informative program on football.

ESPN - you SUCK. Sorry, but you are off my list until you come to your senses and rid yourselves, and all of America, of this rightwing nut bozo.

End of rant. Thanks!

5. Yeah, but his ratings will suck
and they'll dump him after a few weeks or months. He's a no-talent blow-hard who owes his radio longevity to loyal dittoheads. Everyone else is going to tune him out.
