5. We are frightened, greedy, self-centered cowards, that's why.
I agree with your statement and we all must bear the blame and live with the shame. It is long passed time we should have stood up to these fascists - maybe it isn't too late...

7. Minor disagreement
As George Carlin once pointed out, the government has tanks and flamethrowers. We haven't got any tanks or flamethrowers, so it looks like we're f@#$ed if we try to fight the government. And Chimpoleon would set the tanks and flamethrowers on us without a second thought.

9. I'm only guessing here...
...but maybe...just maybe...the 'new' leadership of the Democratic party is complicit in the corruption? Perhaps they're sharing the booty and the 'time of war' political capital?

10. ah, see, we're truly cunning

Our little trick has been to let them steal and bungle while appearing not to notice them doing it.

Now, like degenerating mob bosses, they're utterly overloaded with loot and can't use or hide it all. And they've boxed themselves into being stuck with massive political failures. What they have left is their goon squads (i.e. hardliner support)- who are ever less sure that it's in their real interests to fight on that side.

We can put all our effort into some idealistic fight against this mob immediately, which will have the effect of stalling its internal degeneration. Or we can be patient, pick off strays and fawns from the herd until it's too weak and conflicted to hold together anymore.
