Just sent my rant to ESPN about Rush Limbaugh....
Like-minded DUers should do the same. This is really a stab in the heart of sports in my book. Is there nothing these arrogant facists won't do? And will we let them get away with it all?

1. Tony Kornheiser
On PTI tonight, called Limbaugh a "windbag" and said he was going to cost ESPN every viewer they have on the left. Was seriously not happy about this.

2. I guess Korny's gone up in your book, now?
;-)

Glad to hear at least one company man railing against him. I'm interested in hearing what Mike Greenburg has to say about this on their radio morning show tomorrow.

Our local sports talk radio host isn't happy about it either, a welcome surprise.

12. He did it again on his radio show this morning
Went on and on about it, had everyone in studio saying it was a mistake.

Went so far as to say that Limbaugh is a force for the "side of evil".

Yeah, ol' Tony's gone up a notch or two. :-)

I only had it on for the first hour - but I loved how we was skewering that GOD-AWFUL Dennis DeYoung song being used for the All-Star Game.

5. Exactly - Dumb move by ESPN.
Lefties who are football fans will tune out.

But Rush fans that aren’t football fans aren’t going to be turned into football fans by BoilButt’s presence. Maybe they’ll tune in once just out of curiosity, but that’ll be it.

Net loss for ESPN.

3. Here's what I sent to ESPN . . .
Have you lost your effing minds? When you hired Rush Limbaugh you got a notorious right-wing fanatic who has alienated every Democrat in this country. If, as you say, he has 20 million listeners, he also has 120 million people out here who detest him with a white hot passion. My family and I will not be watching ESPN as long as you have Limbaugh on the air. We only hope he will soon meet Dennis Miller's fate. Seems the NFL has become a Republican enterprise.

Have the NFL cheerleaders to denigrate.

I hope there aren't too many "feminazis" cheering for football out there for him.

Mind you, I don't take issue with men who like to admire women, but he's a pig who hates any female who stands up for herself and can go out and earn a living (a la Hillary).

He is a complete pig. He's the guy out there cutting you off in traffic every rush (UGH! so that's where they fucking got the name!) hour in his asinine SUV. Ridiculous, worthless jerk.

I know, I know, why don't I tell you how I REALLY feel about Rush?!?

6. I'm out of the loop and I don't have ESPN, but
I'd be willing to write a letter about this to them, I just have not heard that they had hired him, I have purposely severly limited my online time the last few days so I didn't know. He is offensive enough in his little radio hole, I can't imagine having to look at him as well. This has probably offended alot of people; when I did have this on cable it was purely for the reason that I liked to watch women's sports games that major stations did not carry like WNBA, women's college basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball, as well as the WUSA, WPFL and the professional women's softball games. Although alot of these are carried on ESPN2 I imagine that there are a whole lot of women's sports fans out there who have been offended by this, especiallly since it has been in the forefront of the media because of the recent ruling on Title IX. Thanks for posting this.

8. The only reason I watch ESPN is to catch the Twins score.
I won't watch Pig Boy's stupid NFL show.

I would have given anything to see Kornheiser bash Limbaugh. I caught the tail end of it when they were doing their big finish.

Remember a couple years ago, Rush was being considered for Monday Night Football? Boy, are they lucky they didn't pick him. Their ratings would be lower than they are already.

How is he going to give the "fans perspective" when he makes 20 million a year? Maybe he can give the luxury box perspective?

This is a man who has made multiple racist and homophobic comments, who is bigotted against any and all minorities.

You want discussion and debate, you're going to get it in abundance. Right now, my debate is to which of your competitors I will be giving my time and money. I have no time for an organisation that hires racists and hate-mongers.

15. Sent one last night - called this morning - anyone who doesn't
should become a repuke. What better way to give this piece of shit legitimacy than to have him snuck into the lives of unsuspecting football fans that don't pay attention to politics? Is ESPN expecting hate mail? Yes. Will ESPN feel a little uneasier about their decision if every piece of that hate mail includes the following elements?:
-racist
-outraged
-never watching again

Yes.

Write, call, and make ESPN terrified of allowing that piece of shit into the studio.

20. Oh Puleaze...his very presence means they condone his politics..
I told them as much in my letter.

Rush called liberals "unpatriotic" and "traitors" in the build up to this ridiculous war. No I take great offense to being labeled unpatriotic and traitor.

SO by hiring Rush, they must agree with his politics, correct? What other explanation is there?

MILLIONS of football-knowledgeable Americans who could have been hired, but they chose the most partisan, hate-filled liar on the planet to fill the job. If ESPN says there was no political motivation for this, THEY are lying too.

18. My short letter to them - I AM PISSED
I am a frequent viewer, and let me tell you - I was APPALLED that you would hire Mr. Limbaugh to be a commentator for your network. This man has done more harm to the recent political discourse of this country than any other media figure. His program is a hateful chasm full of mildly cloaked bigotry and mysogyny, wrapped up in a faux patriotism that dares to vilify "Liberal" war veterans like Max Cleland or John Kerry.

This man had the temerity to label all Liberals as "traitors to the country" and "unpatriotic" during the lead-up to this current war. That you would give this man air-time on your network means that you condone his views, and as a Liberal, I take serious offense to this. I will be sure to tell all of my fellow liberal sports fans about your new political views.

I will no longer watch your network as long as he is on, and will urge others to do the same.

Thank you,
XXXX in Cleveland

19. Here's mine
reposted from last night

I really must express my displeasure at the choice of Rush Limbaugh as a football commentator. Mr. Limbaugh is a liar, a hypocrite, a propagandist, and a coward. It could be argued that he is a major reason that thousands of people have died in Iraq. His propaganda helped get George W. Bush get installed in the White House, which led to Bush's lies committing us to an attack on Iraq.

I have put up with impromptu commercials for Limbaugh by the likes of Reece Davis, Chris Myers, Dan Patrick, Rob Dibble, Sean Saulsbury, Al Morganti, and Barry Melrose, because I enjoy your programming and figured it was just individuals' opinions (though I am sure such fawning over a Democratic icon would have gotten any host fired). But by giving Limbaugh even more air time for his vile, hate-filled lies, you've pushed me away. I like SNF, but will not be watching that, or anything else on your network, as long as he is employed there.

The group on NFL 2Night said that Limbaugh represents "the fans". You must really have a low opinion of your fans.

Sincerely,

I got the standard reply saying that they hired Limpballs for his sports comments and not his political views. They don`t understand that they can`t hire someone like that and not be looked upon as political. Its like hiring Bob Denver to play someone other than Gilligan. He will always be Gilligan.

25. Here's mine:
To have a 20-million dollar shitbag like Limbaugh proclaim himself as a voice of the fans is galling. The man has done nothing more than discriminate against women and minorities throughout his career in broadcasting. For ESPN and ABC to hire him is to make it appear as if the NFL-which prides itself on diversity-has endorsed a pasty-faced bigot.

Keep in mind also that a boycott against his advertisers recently has been quite successful. Also keep in mind that ESPN could be sold soon by Disney.

"His acute sense of what's on the minds of his listeners combined with his ability to entertain and serve as a lightning rod for lively discussion makes him the perfect fit for this new role. We want to give fans a voice, and Rush is the person who can do it."

No.
1. He is unbelievably unentertaining. He is a pompous jackass. He has no regard for the truth, yet he has the gall to call himself "America's Truth Detector."
2. Lightning rod for lively discussion? Only if you agree with him. If you don't, he either doesn't let you talk or he calls you names. It's not for nothing that his fans call themselves "dittoheads."
3. I don't need a voice. I have one of my own. I also have a brain on my own. Just "report," I'll "decide."
4. If I did need a voice, Rush Limbaugh is the absolute last person who I would choose to speak for me. He is a racist, sexist, homophobic blowhard.

I can guarantee you that I will not be watching ANY program that Rush Limbaugh is on. Ever.
