George W Bush Joke that's not really a Joke.......Letteman
there should be a catalogue of these:

"People who are listening.......across the country can make a difference. That's why they've got emails.....or telephones.
Or, in some cases, buses." huh?

letterman then made fun of some shoulder twitch he did as he smirked, following the 'buses' comment.

8. Holy smoking mother of pearl!
I've been tracking Bushisms since day one and that is certainly the icing on the cake. I would never in my wildest dreams think he could be that idiotic. Astonishing stupidity, even after telling us Africans came to America for freedom.

4. He also said that
"Bush was mad as hell about the 16 words in the SOTU since he had to spend all that time learning how to pronounce the word uranium". LOL. Of course the idiot still has not learned how to pronounce nuclear.

You all can make a difference in this debate. Not only the people present in this room can make a difference, but people who are listening across the country can make a difference. That's why they've got emails -- (laughter) -- or telephones, or in some cases, buses. (Applause.) People on the Hill are responsive to the voice of their fellow citizens.

7. Uranium
I also enjoyed the line about how Bush was so upset with the Niger flack because it took him so long to learn how to pronounce Uranium.

:)

10. Is Letterman Democrat, or Republican?
I'm always curious as to what these late night TV folks are, and what they are.

11. not easy to answer

He was an Indiana-type moderate Republican when younger (in the '70s). With moderate Republicans now homeless in either Party and New York City area Democrats not exactly the models for what the Party wishes to be, I think he votes according to the person. He says he voted for Gore in 2000. I don't think he voted for Clinton in '92 but it's not clear about '96 iirc. I doubt he votes in off-year elections and as a Connecticut resident the rest of his votes aren't as clearcut indicators of anything.

Word is that comedians tend to have conservative upbringings but prefer liberal surroundings- that tends to keep them sensitized to the ironies in the present. People who don't have one foot in either world tend to miss out on the juxtapositions, and people travelling in the opposite direction hate all the dissonances. It's the combination of noticing the juxtaposition and finding the dissonance intriguing that keeps them finding fresh material.

13. A mental twitch
A don't forget this quote from yesterday:

"The larger point is and the fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in and he wouldn't let them in."
