All that's wrong with the world, and * signs a Daylight Savings Time Bill

Does anyone else see something crazy about this? Maybe I don't know all of the facts, so please school me! I do not see what is so significant about this bill.

As gas prices continue to soar to record levels this week, the president signed into law an energy bill that he admits will do little to reduce dependence on foreign oil or cut energy costs. The sweeping energy bill addresses another issue that crops up from time to time: daylight saving time. Starting in 2007, daylight saving time will be extended. Author Michael Downing argues that there is no proof that daylight saving time saves anything.

1. This bill will give energy companies billions of dollars!
This is sick!

The measure will send billions of dollars to energy companies in the form of tax breaks and loan guarantees, requires utility companies to follow federal standards and extends daylight savings time by 1 month.

4. And Exxon is still recording record profits!

Despite a decline in production, Exxon Mobil reported a 32 percent increase in second-quarter profit Thursday, to $7.64 billion, or $1.20 per share.

The earnings, the third-largest in company history, were powered by a 28 percent increase in profit from sales of oil and natural gas. Henry Hubble, the company's chief financial officer, said industry conditions remained "robust."

3. 1984 Daylight saving contest, true @ snopes
http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/daylight.asp
The Eldorado Daily Journal asked its readers to save daylight during Daylight Savings Time, and has offered a prize for the person who saves the most. The rules are simple:

"Beginning with the first day of Daylight Savings Time, those entering the contest must begin saving daylight. Those who save the most daylight by midnight of the last day of Daylight Savings Time will be awarded a prize."

"Only pure daylight is allowed. No pre-dawn light or twilight will be accepted. Daylight on cloudy days is allowable. Moonlight is strictly prohibited and any of it mixed with daylight will bring immediate disqualification."

"Contestants are instructed to save their accumulated daylight in any container they wish, then bring the container to the Daily Journal office at the end of DST — or when they think they have saved enough daylight to win."
