Microsoft taps Wal-Mart exec as new COO
http://news.zdnet.com/2100-3513-5819065.html

The software maker hired Kevin Turner to fill that post, in which he will oversee sales, marketing and other aspects of the company's functional units. Product units will continue to report up to CEO Steve Ballmer.

All I need say is this:

Should anybody be even remotely surprised?! They're two of a kind.
Two predatory jackals whose business methods are so similar I dare say they go over to each others' mansions and swap diary entries and cookie recipes before doing the wild thing on a bed of negotiable securities...

7. Reminds me of a thread I saw on Slashdot about Wal-mart vs MS.
Someone was speculating about Wal-Mart making a proprietary flavor of Linux to put on PC's and how with all their financial capital (more than MS) they could be a real competitor. I wonder if somebody at MS was taking notes, and this is about securing positive relationships. hmm.

10. Yes It does

I downloaded Linspire 5.0.59 yesterday, and I Installed It on an old Micron PC of mine. (P-2 400MHz)

It runs "really slow" on that old system.
It takes the browser almost a full minute to load, and the browser keeps crashing on D.U, and on some other websites.

11. It's getting hard to tell
how much of that is a distro's fault or KDE's. I once put Mandrake 8.0 with KDE on an old 266mhz Pentium II system and raising app windows was like churning ice cream. Even on current spec'ed boxes I get a millisecond "bloom" on their GUI widgets that doesn't happen with WinXP.

14. I always had good luck with KDE
I used to run it on an athlon 750, did fine. It was Ximian(gnome) that really maxed out my box, to be honest. Either way, I've heard from a freind about a really minimalistic one I haven't tried, and I don't remember the name, but its great for slower boxes. That's the great thing about Linux I suppose, the choices!

12. Kevin Turner is actually a decent guy
Not everyone at Wal-Mart is evil. Enough are, but many are decent people. To be fair to them, the worst ones, like Bill Fields, former president, have been forced to walk the plank.

Not defending those buttheads, but it's a big company and there are a lot of very nice, hard-working people there.
