3. I get the impression that a lot of people in OH don't give a fuck
about their Marines.

9. I'm sure MANY if not ALL of us here do, but I'm so discouraged
after what I saw yesterday and the smearing of another good Marine in the name of politics.

I almost qualified my response to that thread (to except all of us here and the good folks of conscience in OH), but I'm starting to think we have to make our speech more "uncomfortable" for those who have no concept of the consequences of their actions.

Of course, I know that not nearly everyone in OH is as depraved as Schmidt and her voters, and I am very sorry that they have to get lumped in with those freaks.

I live in TX and I live with this everyday too. I quit trying to defend my state as a whole and just point out that some of us, hell, MOST of us, care very, very deeply about our soldiers - and THAT is why we are not ever giving up on fighting these bastards back home.

My sincere condolences to you, another embattled red-state Dem.

5. horrible to say this
but too bad the election was yesterday and not today. This would surely have swinged some voters. I liked how Hackett approached victims families. He stayed away, he didn't want to expose them to media or use them for political gain. That witch took a picture signed by bush or a letter to the family. Too bad Bushy couldn't do this himself. Instead of spending a long term vacation in Texas, if he had any morals or obligations, he could be touring around to see soldier families.

7. Wouldn't Have Made A Difference
The GOOP has a strong machiine in that district...the reason meeester boosh nominated Portman (the former congressman) is he knew how it would have taken a miraculous (and in many ways, Hackett's strong showing was that) to lose that seat.

This wasn't people looking at thing nationally, the were voting locally...they went with the party that runs their towns, picks up the garbage, runs the park district and has their fingers in lots of money and services for those people. They went for the person, and party, they've voted for without any question as this is the one that will deliver the pork.

As Tip O'Neill said, "All Politics is Local"...this is a prime example. While Hackett made a great candidate...and I would love to see how he's do against a DeWine next year, to expect turning around 30 years of GOOP groundwork in that district was asking for a lot.

It also didn't help when hundreds of outsiders and their money started to pour in (you wouldn't like to see that in your district, I sure didn't like seeing it when it happened in mine). My concern now is what happens today and tomorrow for Democrats in Ohio-2. It'd be a shame to see all this hard work vanish if the local Democratic organization is now ignored and miss making deeper, long-term roots in that district that could turn it Blue (even in that deep of a "crimson" area). Hopefully someone is noting this lesson.
