1. I just started a new job.
I'm not allowed to take a vacation for six more months, and it's only for a few weeks a year.

2. I get very little time off
Almost none, to be honest.

I do get a fair amount of "dead time." Kernel programmers might be aware of this, but anyway, kernels need a lot of testing and are huge programs that take a long time to compile, so there's a lot of dead time I can use to post here (and elsewhere).

3. I agree
I noticed that, he takes a European vacation yet Americans can't even take the 2 weeks of vacation or risk getting fired often.

Just another piece of evidence he can't "put himself in anyone else's shoes".

28. "European vacation" Ha!
He sneers at the French, but he vacations just like them.

Maybe someone needs to start hammering this point.

4. My dad
is a civil engineer and has been at TVA for over fifteen years and he only gets about two-three weeks off. We're planning on taking a week off before school starts. He didn't get a vacation this year because my grandfather was dying and we were spending time with him. :( My dad works so hard and deserves a break. :( His next one isn't until Christmas. :( Damn Bush.

5. does being laid off count?
That's the only time I've ever gotten that much time off from work (and I've never received a paid holiday that long, in my life!). And my dad was a teacher too -- so I know that he actually did work for most of the summer (writing reports, making up lesson plans, etc.).

32. Yes it does!
I was laid off from my current job in Sep '03 thanks to Bush's great economic policies!

I was asked back after 2 weeks due to some people pulling some strings for me, but I got a FREE 2 week PAID vacation that I spent stressing my self out thanks to the Chimpie in Chief! (I originally had a 2 month severance package, thats why I got paid.)

8. I've never had paid vacation in my life
Every, and I do mean EVERY job I've ever had required you to not start accumulating vacation until 6 months, and not able to 'take' vacation until after 1 year.

Well, it always seems that *I* get the jobs that are sooooooooo unexpendable that no, heather, you can't take time off...we have no one to cover for you, no one to do your job, no one to do this blah blah blah.

I mean, I've eventually gotten the vacation time when I quit, but I've either had to take time off without pay, or wait until I'm inbetween jobs, or in school or whatever to actually take time off...again, without pay....

9. Well, I'm going to be a college student in the fall,
and I only hold a part-time job now, but I can speak for my parents.

They're both teachers. My dad has worked three jobs during the school year since before I was born. He teaches summer school during the summers. Several classes. There's always a week at the beginning of August between summer school ending and school starting that we would get to take our family vacations.

My father (and mother, for that matter) work demanding, frustrating jobs. In the case of my dad, he's a teacher and still only gets one week off a year.

12. If this was the only time off he takes all year
it would be no big deal. I think a 4 week vacation is very reasonable. But we all know he takes a LOT more time off than this.

And I swear every time he does this in August, I think of 2001. Remember what happened on Aug 6 that year? :grr:

18. I have been working at the same job for over five years.
I have had one raise, and I still only get one week paid vacation a year, which can not be taken during the summer months due to tourism.

I now hold two jobs. 45-50 hours per week at my full time job and another 10-20 hours on the weekend at another.

WTF is he thinking taking a fucking month off. The POTUS should not be taking a fucking month off, I don't care if it's the dipshit in there now, or any other fucking person in the office. NEVER should they take a month off.

22. I don't get paid for days off
I work part-time and only get paid for the hours I actually work. I can take time off without pay for vacations.

Meanwhile my husband, who is being worked to death at Fannie Mae, was recently told he couldn't take any vacation this year. Same thing happened last year. The reason: his group has to work nights and weekends to meet unrealistic deadlines so their manager can get a fat five-figure bonus. Nothing for the people who do the actual work, of course, except stress, exhaustion and no time with their families.

Ever notice they get all the benefits of socialist France who they despise so much? As long as the beneficiaries are the ruling class they are fine with socialism.

Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 08:48 AM by djohnson
Had a few days off here and there but can't afford to do anything during that time except stay at some and work on other things that need to get done.

Bu$h and his 50 vacations and month long sabbaticals is an insult to our country.

27. I consider myself fortunate. I have 3 weeks vacation,
3 personal days and 10 sick days. I take the sick days when I am sick of working. And also every national holiday. We are sent home half-day before the holiday. So if it's a 3-day weekend, I really get 3-1/2 days.

30. I had one vacation 20 years ago, it was a week in San Antonio.
I loved the River Walk.

That's been it for me, except for trying to take 1 day off a week because I'm self-employed and can't afford to burn out. But I use that day to do errands and work on home maintenance.

bush is "out of touch" with the average American.

I take responsibility for being self-employed. I don't take responsibility for the state of economic affairs in this country that make it harder and harder just to get by. FU to the top 5 percent in this country who make their millions stepping on the backs of the bottom 95 percent.
