Congress plans to scrutinize Plame-related issues

WASHINGTON, July 25 (Reuters) - Congress will conduct a series of hearings on national security and espionage issues raised by the CIA-leak controversy surrounding senior Bush adviser Karl Rove, officials said on Monday.

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence plans hearings on potential national security threats posed by leaks, including leaks to the media, and will aim to toughen legislation barring the unauthorized disclosure of classified information.

"It's time there's a comprehensive law that will make it easier for the government to prosecute wrongdoers and increase the penalties that hopefully will act as a deterrent," said Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, the panel's Republican chairman.

....

Speaking earlier at a forum hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation, Hoekstra said his committee would begin hearings as early as September that would include testimony from CIA, Pentagon and Justice Department witnesses.

3. I'd agree but also
No Dog supports another Dog to be Top Dog. That's just the way it is. If the Bush's start looking weak - and they are heading in that direction, the other dogs in the Republican party will get more aggressive.

9. I think there are rumblings
Certainly the courts compromise points this way - whatever you think about it from our side of the fence, it's clear Bush and Frist would rather have had a showdown.

5. Agenda:Patriot Rove was merely trying to stop Traitor Matt Cooper
from conveying an inaccurate story.

end of counter propoganda.

8. Whenever Bush's "pod people" in Congress get busy, LOOK OUT!
Consider the "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA), a bill that was supposed to answer the election fraud of 2000 ("hanging chads," etc.), and, instead, became a billion dollar boondoggle for Bushite electronic companies (rightwing billionaires, Bush campaign chairs) to utterly corrupt our entire election system, with lavish lobbying and big business deals, to peddle extremely shoddy, unreliable, insecure, hackable, expensive "shiny new" electronic voting systems to the states, with contracts permitting these Bushites to control the programming code for vote tabulation as "trade secret," proprietary information, and with one third of the country failing to require even a paper trail for verification (let alone a paper BALLOT backup).

There is now bipartisan corruption in this big, new, billion dollar, "revolving door employment" industry that we call "elections."

Check out Amaryllis' post on the hogfest at the Beverly Hilton this August, sponsored by Diebold, ES&S Sequoia, for election officials from around the country--a pleasant week of fun, sun and corruption...it will burn your eyeballs!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x380340

That's what Bush's "pod people" in Congress do to issues of concern--utterly corrupt everything to do with that issue that might be in the public interest--with some bipartisan help from collusive, corrupt and/or scared Democrats.

How can they FURTHER disable, corrupt, purge, out, put at risk, blind, cripple, "privatize," put to the use of Global Corporate Predators, war profiteers and arms dealers, and require Bush Cartel loyalty oaths from, our intelligence agencies?

How can they destroy any public good--anything truly in the public interest--that our intelligence agencies might be doing?

That's what these House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence hearings will really be aimed at.

Specific targets; Patrick Fitzgerald, Joseph Wilson, Valerie Plame, and any remaining remnants of honesty and true patriotism within the CIA.
