Where do DUers get their news?
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 05:30 PM by Loyal
I posted this in another thread in GD:

<<Let me say first of all, that I'm a political novice. I watch political talk shows sometimes and I watched the debates, but I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination. Let me say this though: I have seen a lot of 9/11 documentaries and other Bush biographical things like the one I am watching right now, on tv lately. I am beginning to think that the media, which is controlled by fewer and fewer corporations each year, is favoring Bush over the Democratic candidates seeking to replace him. I feel like they are trying to prop him up because they feel he is friendlier to their corporate interests. I don't mean to start conspiracy theories or anything, this is just the way I feel. Any thoughts, links, or comments to help me understand this would be appreciated.

Thanks.>>

Where do you people get your news? I check LBN sometimes but are there any good websites to get all your news from?

4. All over the place...
Local newspaper, news from other countries on the Internet, New Yorker, the Humanist, Harpers, Yahoo news, DU, local TV, cable, scientific publications, the Progressive, etc. I think hearing it from many different sources is important... however, I avoid Fox, and during the invasion of Iraq would not watch CNN because it was just cheerleading.

7. Don't forget www.truthout.org
www.truthout.org

As a bonus, truthout has a mailing list that will send daily headline links to your inbox. I like the mailing list myself.

It's already been mentioned, but Harpers is a great magazine. It has everything from very long to very short articles... so it fits the mood you're in at the time.

11. From right here on DU
I come on-line and come right here every few hours. Everything I need to know is right here from all the wonderful people on DU. I just sit back and read. Television news gets me too upset and angry.

What you are expressing is no conspiracy, your sentiments are right on the money. The Media functions within a propaganda model explained in Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent(must read). Go check out the documentary “Manufacturing Consent” (Noam Chomsky) from your local library to get a birds eye view of the Electronic Berlin wall(I.E the mainstream media).

You have only begun to scratch the surface. I don’t ever watch the media, I know too much about it.The more you watch the less you know. If you stick around long enough here, you will learn about the blatted conflicts of interest in the media, and all the nasty details the bewildered herd would never concern themselves with about the media. There I go again;)
