http://www.blogesque.com/?p=257This has been brewing behind the scenes for some time, and now that John Gorenfeld has published his account I'm going to weigh in. An elected GOP official in Iowa turns out to be not only a Moonie, but in fact is a vehicle for Korean agent Sun Myung Moon's propaganda via several Moonie websites. Among them are the flagship Moonie site FamilyFed.org, Unification.org, AmericanFamilyCoalition.org and WeWillStand.org (WHOIS data here - PDF).
The GOP's Moonie in question is a failed 1996 candidate for the IA House's 71st district and administrator of the local ISP IowaLink/OMNI Internet, David Payer of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also a Republican party official and the webmaster for the Polk county GOP. This was discovered because Mr. Payer has been cybersquatting on a domain that Gorenfeld (a nationally-published journalist) would like to obtain, Gorenfeld.com. Payer registered the domain via Domains By Proxy, the service that disguises domain registrations, but a helpful employee of DBP passed along Payer's name to Gorenfeld during a phone call checking the status of the expired (but since renewed) domain registration. To date, the domain in question is still content-free and results in a 404 not found error, despite having been registered to David Payer for over a year.
David Payer's stated excuse for cybersquatting on Gorenfeld.com was that "I want people to know a little about John Gorenfeld… I want to give you your 15 minutes." You see, Payer was upset about Gorenfeld's coverage of last year's Crown of Peace scandal, in which Sun Myung Moon was crowned as Messiah and King by members of Congress in the Senate Dirksen office building. The Moonies of course downplay the significance of this outrageous event to outsiders, calling it an acknowledgement of Moon's "work" for peace, and some people have even likened it to the king and queen's crowning at a homecoming or county fair. :saywhat: Payer said that Gorenfeld "gave it a perspective, or a view, that was cast so diabolically…as if there was something do with becoming the King of America or something." However, the Moonies privately portrayed this event in exactly that way:

In addition to being a Moonie propagandist and the Polk County GOP's webmaster, Payer is an elected member (2-year term beginning 02/17/2004) of the Executive Committee of the Polk County IA Republican party. What does this committee do?

the writer asks if the people of Polk Co., Iowa really know what they got with Payer?
