Hillary Clinton will NOT be a candidate in 2008.
Despite what the right wishes, and despite that some of you continue to buy into the right's pipe dreams, Hillary Clinton will not be a Dem presidential candidate in 2008.

She won't even be a primary candidate.

I remain shocked that a small contingency of DUers actually believe she'll run.

She won't.

I'm not saying that she isn't qualified to be president. She is. But, as the past five years have demonstrated, we are living in the second Dark Ages. Democrats will run someone who will win, and that will have to be a man.

I'm a feminist and I'm saying this. We won't win with a woman candidate in 2008. American sentiments will have to evolve a whole lot before we (or the Repubs) can win with a woman candidate.

I'm not saying that it's right. I'm just saying that this is the way it is.

So, even though the Right is trying to convince us that we will nominate Hillary, we won't.

Not only do I think she will run, I believe she will win.

She has already begun the process of positioning herself for the run.

I like & admire Senator Clinton, but she's too polarizing of a figure. The wingnuts are just using her as a rallying cry to raise money.

That said, I'd love to see her on the Supreme Court one day!

Justice Hillary Clinton has a nice ring to it!

9. It isn't JUST that she's polarizing.
Bush really stirs up our angst with the best of them, and yet that didn't prevent him from winning.

Clinton energizes the right in a way few Democrats not named "Kennedy" can. But unlike Bush, or even Kennedy, Hillary just does NOT energize Democrats. And that's really all it comes down to.

Nothing but wishful thinking on their part anyway. Trying to talk it into
existence. I've never bought it for a second. It's red meat for them, which is why they want it so badly.

The way I see it, the conversation of a woman for president won't progress until the field of potential candidates incresases.

Until we can look around and see several women who would be a great president - from both parties - this country simply isn't ready for it.

16. If she wins the nomination, she'll lose the general - - check out Zogby
Last month Zogby polled who folks would vote for in 2008. McCain slaughtered HRC, 54% to 35%. He slaughtered her in the blue states, and with every traditionally Democratic group. He even got 18% of the black vote against her in this poll!

She is a vote loser nationally. Let her stay in a safe state, like New York, where she can actually win.

And when we get control of the Supreme Court nominating process, we can revisit whether she is even on the short list of nominees (I'm guessing "no").

15. I hope you're right, but she's not qualified to be President
At this point she hasn't even finished a single Senate term. She's accomplished nothing of importance as a Senator. But most importantly, she's made some really terrible votes when it really counted - - such as voting for the Iraq war and the Patriot Act - - which prove that she is either in way over her head, or she's so cynical she votes for the popular bill regardless of consequences of that vote.

Hillary Clinton is about the worst person we could nominate.

The US is not yet ready for a female president, no matter who she is, or how well qualified she may be.

27. I look to Mario Cuomo in '89 and '90
He was the thousand pound gorilla after George HW Bush won in 1988. Everybody was speculating on when he'd officially throw his hat into the ring. It was when, not if.

However, he never ran, never tossed his name in the ring or anything.

Too bad, he would have been a great president.

So, when people say Hillary is way out in front right now, I just look back to Cuomo around the same time 15-16 years ago and remember that a lot can happen in the next 12-15 months.

Hillary is perfectly capable of winning the presidency, the one thing that determines whether she will or not is if we have a legitimate election. The media trying to paint Hillary as an unwinnable candidate are just making it all the more acceptable when the cabal steals another election.

37. Demographics and presidential elections
Elections these days are fought on computers, voting registration
computers, voting computers and segmentation database computers for
political marketing.

There "is" a swing voting group, that is concerned about video game
violence, that can vote hillary in 08, and her advisors have identified
these swing demographics on thier databases. She is making her
appearances to win over these demographics. They are not you, you will
likely vote straight dem because you and "we" at DU are political
junkies who are compelled to vote against repukes.

Expect all her appearances in the next period to be a makeover to appear
centrist for those demographics. Then she'll have the broad appeal to
win a general in the conservative heartlands as well as the liberal
cities.

I support her if she runs, and will not be the one to cast any spell of

No one feels half-way about this, and it took real courage to say it.

I'm not sure I agree or disagree about her running. The feeling comes and goes, but I do feel she's wrong for the coming election.

I'd love to see her on the Supreme Court. If Bush was really on getting the attention off of Rove, he would have nominated Hillary. The frenzy would have been enormous. And in the end, she would not have been okayed. But no one would have been talking about Rove for the time it took to choose her and have the hearings...

39. Mrs. Clinton would face a huge challenge.
Hillary. Clinton.

Two words that will get every right wing nut in the country energized. Is her baggage worth the risk of losing one more time?

The question is not whether or not she can win...it's whether or not she could govern effectively. She may have a hard time convincing independents and moderates to vote for her for this simple fact. For one thing, she would not have the support of the media...indeed they would have a feeding frenzy that would make Bill's 8 years look like a Sunday afternoon prayer group meeting.

Also, I don't beleive a win in the Democratic primaries is a given...not if We The People follow Howard Deans' plan and take back our party. Unless the DLC completely controls things, and takes the party down the same unproductive path it did in 2002 and 2004, I am hoping for a real good primary season with several great choices.

Personally, I hope someone not in the limelight now runs...not a Senator (they have a really bad track record running for president), perhaps a Governor, perhaps someone who is not in an elected position now, perhaps someone who is not a career politician...

no one would believe her. The RW gets huge amounts of donations with the prospect of her running. The Dems are also raking in money due to that. We will not know if she is running until she makes that official. I have doubts that she will run. I feel that W. Clark is the strongest candidate so far.

As much as I'd like to see a woman candidate, it's not realistic. And anyway Hillary would be too easily shredded by her well-organized opposition. But any woman would be torn to pieces. It's a fading dream. I doubt we'll see a woman US prez in any of our lifetimes. We're way behind the 8-ball on a lot of those dreams. Gotta keep pushing on all fronts, but Hillary for President isn't one I'm going to waste much energy on.

45. The idea of Hillary winning
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 05:36 PM by fujiyama
is a pipe dream. Plus I don't see one thing appealing about her these last several years.

Hillary has all the baggage of someone being on the far left (that's how MANY percieve her), and no amount of pandering to lazy parents will change that.

She'll lose the male vote by very large numbers. Granted, most Dems don't get a majority of the male vote, but she would lose it by huge numbers. I also don't see a single state Kerry lost that she'd win. OTOH, I can think of several states Kerry barely won that she'd likely lose.

This is not to say I don't believe a woman couldn't win but I don't think it's Hillary. I believe if a woman were to be elected, it would unfortunately be someone on the right. I don't see a liberal woman getting elected or someone percieved to be a liberal.

46. For me it has nothing to do with the fact that she's a woman.
It has nothing to do with her party (that part is good!). It has nothing to do with her last name, either.

Personally, she does nothing for me. Zip. Nada. Never has. She's not a lightning rod or whatever, either. Not for me, anyway (I know she is for a lot of people). She's always elicited a shrug or two from me.

As for her voting record, it's mostly republican lite. It's not something I've been happy about.

For those reasons, if she throws her hat in the primary, I know I will not be supporting her for the nomination.
