MSNBC's Fineman Says Bush Pick For SCOTUS 'Brilliant"
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 02:18 PM by bigtree
here's the article:

The brilliance of Bush’s court choice-

Roberts is very conservative — and has a high probability of confirmation

Howard Fineman
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8643539/

{snip}

As a matter of political strategy, Roberts was a brilliant pick. Bush chose the most conservative judge he could find who also had a very high probability of Senate confirmation. Let’s use a golf analogy. He didn’t aim for the pin, but he laid it up just short for an easy putt.

Fineman is infuriating. Those of you who don't want to fight, turn away. Fineman is begging for a fight.

Brilliant pick? High probability of confirmation? Easy Putt?

Ready to fight yet?

1. Brilliant...Bush...
That's like "Military Intelligence": those are just two words that don't go together.

3. I agree with Fineman

That prick. But he's right..it is brilliant and the "moderate" Dems will fall for it. AKA the more than half of them that are Republicans in Dem clothing.

Skinner-Mr. Moderate figured it out. NO! Fight. That says it for me.

Edited to add..some moderates are real Dems-obviously like most who post on DU..those in the capitol are the ones I wonder about..seriously

IF NOT NOW WHEN?

WHEN?

When is it going to matter enough to draw a line in the sand. Oh..only if Bush appoints a known Nazi or something..is that all Democrats can do? Fight the obvious?

4. we've only just begun to fight him
He's only moderate when lined up against the extremism that has become the norm from the White House and their cohorts in the Senate.

6. From a political standpoint, he's right.....for once.
They managed to insert a rabid RW ideologue into the court, who appears to be an average joe.

9. He's just been announced. What do we really know about him
beyond what we are being fed by the usual suspects in the press?

He may not look like such a brilliant choice in the coming weeks if we do our homework.

5. He's absolutely correct. This was a masterful political maneuver
He wins no matter what on this nomination.

All that is in doubt is how much he wins based upon how the Democrats react.

We know next to nothing about this man, what we know is damning.

What do you achieve by discouraging a go at upending this man?

What's he hiding Walt?

12. Go after him, but I think it's a waste of resources
He was vetted for a spot on what is considered by most to be the second highest court in the land.

We can hit him on some of his ideology, but at the end of the day you'll never convince the gang of 14 that he should not be on the court. In today's world, it's the gang of 14 who decide what SCOTUS nominations are viable and which ones are not.

10. If it is brilliant
then you know it did not come from Bush. Rove is in charge of all personnel decisions. And he knows all the dirty laundry.

11. He may have enough in his closet
that we can find to derail him. Anyway, they are going to get their nominees through since they have even threatened to break senate rules to so. Unless we can derail this administration somehow, this is what we are going to get.
