The People of this once great nation have gone to sleep and turned over the government to the Corporations. It is too late now for those of us who are paying attention to turn the tide. Forgive me this morning for being gloomy, but it is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better, IMHO.

We don't have the White House. We don't have the House or the Senate. We are about to lose fairness in the Courts. We lost the Media's honesty sometime back. We don't even have Entertainment! This drip, drip, drip, we speak of has been dripping against us for about thirty years and the water is now over our heads.

The majority of the electorate are not paying attention about the Environment. They don't know the real sitch on the jobs in this country. They just want to be left alone to work their three or four jobs to try and buy that Hummer or powerboat because the teevee tells them they have to have them. By the time they connect the hideous sores on their bodies to the Corporate destruction of the environment it will be too late. One reason is that the Dems are almost as in the pockets of Big Business and the Military as the Right Wingers.

Our position as Progressive Activists is the saddest on Earth. We KNOW what is going on but, like Cassandra, no one believes us and we are going to have to sit and watch the slow descent into the abyss.


Sorry I have to go for now. I can't be on line to carry on this thread. I hope more than one or two comment but I doubt it. We must talk about Mr. Roberts or Mr. Rove. Too late.

2. I think there is a little hope in people waking up. Because of the

arrogant vileness of the crimes against our people by this regime and their supporters (the blind religious, the bigots, the pompous supremacists, and the stockholders of destructive and participating corporations), more sleepers are waking up. They may ruin themselves before it's too late. By too late, I mean the complete takeover of our thoughts, movements, bodies, and souls with imposed pseudo religions and laws.

They have a chance if we don't get to vote honestly and if we don't wake up more people. There are so many people in this country who have a strong sense of justice and responsibility and they want opportunity and progress in all areas our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

And the momentum is building. We've been hamstrung as a nation that was way too evenly polarized. The bad news is that the evildoer's have control now. The good news is that our numbers are growing and will continue to grow as they shed more and more moderates who start to finally "get it".

When the pendulum swings, and it will, we can harness the collective anger into driving a progressive agenda that may have taken much longer to get done.

what I say is that "we" here at DU are the proverbial choir. We come here and fulminate and speak the truth. We must fight on but we need to concede that because of the Neocons patience and perfidy over the last few years that we are in the small minority. I believe that all will swing back to the left. The question is at what price? Will it be in two years? Twenty? We must start attacking the most hurtful Corporate policies while there is still time. Many who voted for Bush will agree with us on these issues. They do now. They are held in thrall by the RW waving the issues of "guns, gays, and baby killing". Overcoming this development is the Democratic Challenge. This can only be done after we purge the party of Corporate Shills and somehow balance the Corporate Media.

I think we are in for a long fight, indeed. I cannot see in the demeanor of our current misadministration the willingness to EVER turn power back to Moderates, much less Progressives. Time will tell and what happens will be stranger than any of us can predict.

I think the Democrats are slightly less objectionable than the Republicans, and since Republicans control Congress we need a Democratic president.

But no question, BOTH major parties belong to big business, and don't care about the average middle and lower-class Americans.

This is true and there have been many crimes against humanity

and against nature in the name of Capitalism. I believe our current brand of Maglignant Capitalism puts it in the shade, however. The invention of the Corporation is what has done us in, IMHO, and the abuses that have come from that invention.

Basically, we humans are greedy and selfish and we tend to do bad things. Our system needs altering so that dangerous people such as those now in charge of our Nation cannot be in control of the greatest military machine on the planet. The Constitution will be changed but how many will have to pay with their lives? The clock is ticking.

16. For the most part, our entertainment encourages a materialistic lifestyle

and doesn't question our Corporate driven society. This is my opinion. I realize that some voices in entertainment are "right on" the truth, but just think of what the majority of the culture spends its time with. I am not commenting on so called morals, just the consumerist nature of the entertainment voice ---- all the bling, etc.

Look at the hype about The Potter Books. OK so they are a relatively harmless fad, but letting kids become so obsessed about getting their hands on a copy? Good budding consumer training going on there. There are far more insidious examples. But the Potter craze show how easily the urge to consume can be whipped up to a frenzy when parents get on the bandwagon.
