1. I'm not optimistic unless we have evidence ...
...as the great Democrat Edwin Edwards used to say, of Roberts "with a dead girl or a live boy." His corporatist stance fits nicely with many of them, certainly Biden, D, MBNA and that other joke from Deleware. I'm sure a bunch of them would like to golf with him, etc. etc.

It's all a big joke to many of our Senators. Being "in the club" is more important and serving the causes their party membership supports.

We just have to pray for a wild card. We may get one given the haste with which this was done.

If I were the Senate DEMS, I'd use Rove to put off the nomination and not let the Republicans get away with it.

7. My avatar is the wonderful and courageous Barbara Lee.
Other DUers helped me to create it from a larger photo. I couldn't believe there wasn't already one of her. Even the genocidal Andrew Jackson was an available avatar. (Geeze, DU!)

10. genocidal Andrew Jackson--he made reins out of Indian skin
In terms of malice, I'd say he's up there with Bush, though Bush can potentially do a lot more harm.

Right up there with some of the Nazi's projects. ... My, what a proud past we have... not to mention the present. :(

6. Yeah.
And then campaign for president claiming he opposed and supported him, depending on the audience, while starting each speech "Four score and seven years ago" and ending each with either "Ask not what your country can do for you," or "I am a (fill in the blank with whatever city he is in)-er."

4. I predict a vicious fight, and maybe a Repub voting against him, too.
I think he's toast. Bush picked him just to anger the Democrats, so we'd be diverted from Rove. He picked a radical, a neocon, and a male--the opposite of what most people have said they wanted. I bet there are a few moderate Repubs who won't like him, either. I've got a feeling that Bush's appeal is fading from the Senate, and that they will be looking for a reason to can this guy.

No, no proof. Just a hunch. Let's watch and see.
