Why can't we oppose the SCOTUS nominee
and keep our eye on Rove, too?

I don't understand the idea that it must be one or the other. For God's sake, let's grow some spine here. The big deal has always been the Supreme Court.

I think a vigorous defense against this nomination is justified.

No matter what WE do, the Rove issue is decided by the Grand Jury. I say, oppose, oppose, oppose.

Our opposition won't affect the Grand Jury's decisions, one way or the other.

We should never let a right wing nutjob onto the Supreme Court if there is any hope of keeping him off.

That's my two cents.

1. Well, don't forget the Reid/Lieberman wing of the party
...They of course want to get along, and make nice with Dubya, because if we make nice with him, maybe he'll give us some table scraps...

That's not being fair to Reid
He's been a good Minority Leader.

9. Really, How so?
...Seriously, I'm still waiting for Reid to stand up, take a firm hold on his "manhood" and start fighting for the Democratic party.

Instead, what do we keep hearing from him? "Let's compromise". That's all well and good on a level playing field, but facts are facts, the playing field isn't level. It's slanted in the favor of the opposition, and we need a Minority Leader who has the nuts to show up, and fight like a friggin pit bull.

I'm sorry, but Reid didn't earn ANY brownie points with me when the first thing outta his mouth upon becoming Minority Leader was talk about all the ways he wanted to find compromise with *

10. He frames things well and picks his battles
We lose some, and we win some. He picked Soc. Sec. and that's dead.

Hell, everyone said they wanted to work with Bush if he was willing. He wasn't willing. Game off.

12. LC, I hope you're right
Quite frankly, I HOPE I'm wrong. I really do!

Cause if I'm wrong, and you are right, things will not get as bad as they seem to be getting with Reid's approach.

However, If I'm right, we might want to start thinking about how bad things will be if the Repukes take 2006, while Reid, Lieberman, and others are fretting about how to compromise with *

5. You're right
That's why I say we need to grow some spine. The White House is in trouble right now--big trouble. Now is the time to fight and fight hard. I mean fight everything about * at every turn. Hit 'em low, hit 'em fast, and hit 'em hard.

3. You'll never get 40 Democratic votes in the Senate
It's a done deal. Accept it because there is no way to change it.

PErsonally, I hope both Durbin and Obama choose not to oppose him. Durbin could end up losing his seat in Illinois if he does.

6. of course you can
the question is, is it wise to do so? You could very well end up with a replacement nominee far worse.

7. Just because Bush has a one tract mind, they think we do to and
think that if they swing a carrot (Roberts) in front of us, we will follow it away from Rove. By the way, Did you see the clip on the news showing Rove and Specter talking just before that idiot anounced his mouth piece?
