How come conservative judges very often go liberal after becoming...
...Supreme Court Justices, but liberal judges never go conservative after making it to the Supreme Court? Weird, ain't it?

1. Roberts will probably be a consensus justice
Watch for it. If Pat Robem$ome is pounding Bush over Roberts in a year, we're cool.

2. Because they were ambitious law students, not conservatives
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 08:43 PM by Jersey Devil
A lawyer advocates his clients' causes. That does not mean that he agrees with them. Any young law student coming out of Harvard could probably put on a show worthy of the greatest actor that he is a conservative when given a chance to clerk for a conservative justice of the supreme court and then turn on a dime to be a liberal if being interviewed by a liberal justice. The same holds true when going on to a firm.

Only when freed of pretense can he/she be their own person.

3. i don't think anyone "went liberal"
Souter for example, is a jurist who respects the history of the court and simply isn't a right wing activist

6. That's what I'm hoping for in Roberts.
If he's confirmed, I should say.

I still don't think he's as bad as it could've been.

13. You're right...
Roberts doesn't appear to be as bad as Thomas or Scalia... but is this saying much? :)

8. The constitution is the answer!
It is a very liberal document, hard to be conservative and faithful to it!

I say that only because historically the scum rises to the surface! And God will make SURE!! Whichever GOD you believe in.

11. Conservative judges can become Free At Last, Free At Last.
Thank God Almighty they can become Free At Last.

Look at Brennan, Stephens, Souter, and in some cases Kennedy -- Free At Last!

14. Maybe because they are for once exposed to logical analysis of the
law instead of GOP think tank analysis?
