WASHINGTON, July 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement by Eli Pariser, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action:

President Bush has apparently speeded up the announcement of his Supreme Court nominee to deflect public attention from the Karl Rove scandal. A Republican strategist told Reuters today that the announcement 'helps take Rove off the front pages for a week'.

We think the President should keep his pledge to the American people and fire Karl Rove for his involvement in disclosing the identity of a covert CIA officer. If the President were as straight a shooter as he claims to be, he wouldn't be flip- flopping now on that decision.

MoveOn released a new television ad today that calls on the President to keep his word and fire his top political advisor Karl Rove for disclosing the identity of Valerie Plame.

The ad features White House spokesman Scott McClellan contradicting his 2003 statements when asked last week if the President plans to fire Karl Rove.
